Re: Tips for learning to kite with a prosthetic leg.

Is the position of kneeling doable with a prosthetic limb? I would think that a large board would be a nice stable platform. I would think a SUP, longboard, Egg, or fish would be where I would start. Light winds and a floaty board make for some peaceful sessions. Switch to a SUP paddle if the winds ...

Re: Wear on surf bootie sole

Switch to neoprene socks, then wear street shoes over them (or wake shoes if you can afford them). The neoprene socks are for warmth and prevent your feet from getting blisters. I still wear out the neoprene socks every year, but not having blisters is worth it. Avoid leather shoes. Look for shoes t...

Re: Explain bar pressure please

I think of bar pressure as a relative term. If you oversheet a kite, the bar pressure will go up. This is because the steering line(s) is holding more of the force of the kite, relative to the front lines (center of bar). On most kites (i.e. c-kites), if you move the steering attachment away from th...

Re: Wainman Smoke owners, I need your help

I had a similar problem with a gypsy. I would recommend contacting WH. If memory serves I was able to get the measurements from someone that works there. They may be able to sell you a replacement bridle as well. I only have gen.1, so I can't help. I only fly my Rabbits with the direct bridle. I rec...

1. Fly kites with very light bar pressure.

Fly a different kite.
I got the pain in one elbow after trying to learn to ride unhooked. A lot of kites can have excessive bar pressure if the kite is oversheeted. Make sure your kite is in tune. My recommendation is a pulley bar. :hut:

Re: Do I need to do lock stitching on a brummel splice??

Personally I don't use a brummel splice. For a permananent knot, I do a single bury and stitch. For an adjustable knot, I do a zacher knot (originally shared on foilzone). It is like a normal single bury, but has a long tail, that you do a knot after it comes out of the bury, then tuck the tail afte...

Re: 8m2 of Elf Joker7 tuning and tips

Are you using the same bar with the 11M and 8M? I would use a smaller bar. I'd probably start with a 17" and go down from there. A smaller bar will limit how much you have to depower the kite before the kite will be oversheeted. The 8M probably needs a shorter depower throw too. A shorter depower th...

Re: airtimes valves de-laminating

Airtime sucks imo, I don't buy used kites that have them. Rubbing alcohol. I usually use a paper towel and gloves. For stubborn jobs, I soak in alcohol.
And sometimes I try soaking in hot water. Get all of that airtime crap off.
Aquaseal for glue, Preferably with stock valves. :thumb:

Re: Unhooking for big boys!!

How wide is your board? Board volume & surface area are also relevant. I find the amount of kite needed is is related to board volume / (surface area). Bigger (wider, more volume, more surface area, etc) board means I can be on a smaller kite. Smaller kite means less strain on the hands/arms. The am...

Re: Best hurricane ultra high wind 40 plus knot kite

I have been overpowered on 20M kites (20-30 mph), and overpowered on 9M kites (40-50 mph). Neither is fun. Around here we call that survival kiting. Sure it is doable, but high risk. I am thankful that manufacturers are making small kites (some manufacturers smallest was 9M in 2004). The cool thing ...
