the kite with least pull has a better l/d ratio, less drag... it probably sits further forward in the window to achieve this.

you could make a 12m kite that pulled like 16 and a 12m that pulled like an 8m, its all about the shape. that said neither an 8m/12 or a 16m/12 would be much fun to ride.
