Re: DIY split wave twinny

Yeah two plates would be fine. They wouldn't need to be thick at all since they would be on both sides of the board. Like 300gsm carbon skins might even be enough. I did some measuring and marking on my foil board last night. The bottom part that goes under the plate could be 200mm wide and 700mm l...

Re: DIY split wave twinny

Nice work. I've been thinking about making a split hydrofoiling board. I was thinking a plate on top and bottom. The one on the bottom would extend under the hydrofoil mast plate and forward and the one on top would be flush with the deck pads, but only in the middle like your plate. My board will b...

Re: How to turn a hydrofoil - and what is YAW ?

Thanks Peter. Much appreciated! I'm just getting the gybe thing. Some click and I carve around, others I am ventilating due to poor altitude control, I roll off or mis time the kite. I'm using a sort of counter rotation to initiate the turn. A short upwind tweek, a slight roll/lean up wind, followed...

Re: Balance question - before I get my drill out....

The extra plate causes a lot of extra drag. I had similar one on my surfboard to compensate for bottom channels. It was not a good solution touching down at 35km hr.

Re: Balance question - before I get my drill out....

The rear mounting fir the foothook in relation to the mast mount doesn't look that far off. But somewhat close. If you want to go back to straps, you'll need to move the mast mounts forward 50mm and the front strap. Actually this issue of mast/wing insert position in relation to board is not so easy...

Re: Recommendations needed- flatwater family friendly spot in Europe in July/August

I live in Sweden, been kiting 16 years and windsurfing since 80's here. Summer time there's only really reliable wind in a few regions of Europe. You ask for " very reliable " - I take that to mean 20+ days a month. Combined with flat water. And whats a family friendly hotel?? I have a kid, but stil...

Re: carving to toe

I'll answer this as I learned to do it recently and the regulars here have answered it a bunch of times. You should search for videos. Basically you are on wrong track. Ride more up wind, keep kite low at 45 degrees. Initiate kite turn fairly aggressively, and quickly follow by yawing board into and...

Re: Moses 2018

I'd be interested to hear about the manoeuvrability of the 590 vs the 550.
I suspect grigorib is right, a good combination is the 590 and 558.

Re: Moses 2018

Hej Foil, looking forward to your real-world review. I'm considering going up to Vorace mast with 550 / 330 wings. From what Frank is saying I don't think the 590 is going to give me anything significant. We have turbulent water and chop all over, plus sea grass. I'm 78-80 kg. Be interesting to here...

Re: Moses 2018

I have a 548 wing for sale. PM me, I'm in Europe.
I didn't find it much different than the 550 at low speed and too much lift at speed for my 78-80 kgs.
