Re: SW Colorado Snowkite Conditions

Lizard Head Pass was gorgeous yesterday. The wind was up and down, but around 1:00 it was strong enough for me to get a short session on my 12m rebel. One local was practicing on his 4m, staying on the packed trail.

Thanks for the hospitality everybody. -Chris

Re: SW Colorado Snowkite Conditions

I tried out Grand Mesa yesterday. The Lands End (?) road turnoff seemed like the best spot but there was no one there so I parked at the cross country ski lot a bit further north--still no kiters but at least a bunch of skiers around. Winds were 15-20 and gusty. I pumped up and launched but couldn't...

Re: SW Colorado Snowkite Conditions

As luck would have it winds look like they might be good tomorrow, my first day in the area. I'm up in Grand Junction so I thought Blue Mesa Reservior might be the best place to go. I've seen you guys post about Old Stevens there, and I think I can find it, but I would prefer a spot further west. I'...

Re: SW Colorado Snowkite Conditions

Hi, I'm going to be joining you guys next week and I have a question about what gear to pack. Should I bring snowshoes? Do you throw them in your backpack when you ride in case you have a long walk back, or is the snow pretty packed? Also, I've got 12m and 9m kites (North Rebels). Should I bring the...

Re: Kiteboarding in Cartagena, Colombia

I was in Cartagena in late January and in the four days I was there it hardly blew. I guess that is fairly unusual for late January. It's a great town though and I would go again. The kitesurfing beach is east of the city center, "La Playa Boquilla." It's a couple miles long, very wide and flat, and...

Re: Snowkiting Near Park City

Hey Tom, Bill, Patrick and the rest of the Utah crew with advice and directions: a great big thanks! I had a wonderful week in Park City and the Canyons, including my initiation to snowkiting up at Strawberry. It was a warm, sunny day with 10 or 12 knots of wind, plenty for me on my first day. Eric ...

Re: Snowkiting Near Park City

Thanks Tom, for the great directions to Richardsons Flat. Now it's clear as day on google maps, but I would have never found it! I've read that traditional snowboards tend to turn upwind while kiting. My board is old, though it works fine on the mountain. I've very old clicker bindings which I love....

Re: Snowkiting Near Park City

I'll be arriving Saturday March 8th in Park City for a combination of snowboarding and snowkiting. I wish I were a week early for the SK Masters at Skyline. Looks like you're having great snow and wind. Thanks for your patience with a few newbie/visitor questions since while I can kitesurf on water ...
