Re: Why do you need especially fast turning kite

I want the kite to do what I want it to, when I want it to. It's simple as that. When you're just cruising around in comfortable conditions the kite doesn't matter all that much. If you're at the extremes of the low end or the high end then quick response is vital both for recovering from errors, an...

Re: Surf Foils for Kiteboarding?

My favourite foil is the J Shapes Cruzer. I use it probably 80% of the time in preference to the Freeride foil. I can ride in lighter winds. I can ride slower. Top speed is only a few knots less than the Freeride. I can blast around in waves and really carve the turns. It is very forgiving of techni...

Re: Lets discuss ear protection

I had ear surgery for surfer's ear last year so I am very keen to protect my ears. I tried all the ear plugs and helmets and gave up on them. Now I wear a simple surf cap with ear flaps in warm weather, and a wetsuit with an integrated hood in cold weather. The hood closes snugly around my face and ...

Re: Tube vs Softkite - an epic battle?

I wonder why don't paragliders use inflatable wings? It was tried some years ago. As you climb to high altitude you have to vent excess pressure from the bladder. When you come down again the bladder is soft and floppy and provides no rigidity. They tried running an air tube up the lines with a pum...

Re: Transitioning from a TT to a Surfboard! What do I need to know?

Absolute number one mistake people make on directionals is to have too much weight too far back. They ride along with the nose of the board flapping up and down and waste half their power. The solution is simple. Get your weight forward. Move your head and shoulders forward. If the wind is light the...

Re: Kanaha Shapes review and other intermediate musings

I have a 120cm J Shapes carbon board. The light weight and short length is a joy. Initially everything on the surface is harder but foiling gybes and carves and foot swaps are effortless. You get used to the sinking behaviour on the surface, your technique adjusts and the problems go away. Short, li...

Re: Swimming Is The Best Exercise....

The only problem I have with swimming, and gyms, is you have to go somewhere to do them. It's very inconvenient. I have a weight bench, a set of dumb bells, and a phone app that offers a selection of exercises and keeps track. It's easy to fit in a workout anytime in the morning without having to do...

Re: Kurtis Goggles

The Typhoons have Zeiss lenses with Tri-Pel coatings. Links are below. I don't know if the Typhoons are better than the Surge. I wasn't about to buy both to find out. I read a rave review about the Typhoons. I took a punt and bought them. Was impressed but not blown away when I got them. Kept using ...

Re: Kite Release Training

When you do these exercises, make the person shut their eyes, turn them around 3 times, then blast them i the face with a hose while they do the quick release thing. Make sure you do it for primary and secondary releases. Don't forget to practice with the bar and/or leaders trapped under the harness...
