Re: Jumping stoke.

Nice! Nothing, and I mean nothing, beats a high speed, perfectly powered, boost (preferably off a ramp). Suddenly it all goes quiet, and the next thing you know you're 40 or 50 feet up, watching the water, flying the kite, to a (hopefully) butter soft landing. Love it! Over the past few years at my ...

Re: Kitesurfing in NYC

closest spot to manhattan is plumb beach, in sheepshead bay. however you get there, by car, train, or hovercraft, don't kite after it rains, as sewage overflows drain into jamaica bay, making water hazardous. i made that mistake, and ended up with at staph infection on my face. haven't been there si...

Re: Q-power Line Extensions - Connecting and Knots

extensions shouldn't play a role in the deployment of safety system, as extensions are added onto the kite-side of your current line ends, not the sailor side.

no tying required, just loop one end of the extension through the loop end of the line and presto, off you go.

Re: Photos - Key West & Kiting The Flats At Christmas

I was down there at about the same time. Went out w/Skot one day in extremely marginal winds. Back at the dock Skot surprised me by saying that there was no charge for the afternoon's entertainment, as the wind had failed to cooperate. A very stand up gesture, which I appreciated. (I tried to give h...

Re: Back to the drawing board- how will we beat Sail Rocket?

having the pilot lay down may be the solution to the upright rider wind resistance issue. much simpler than elaborate speed suits, carbon leg cowlings, etc, etc. (rob douglas as transformer man) sounds weird, but my hunch says the solutions will not be what we expect. doesn't the sail rocket look da...

Re: What are the best kite lines around?

i'll add my voice in support of the q-power. first set lasted 5 years. no breaks, no tangles, etc. for safety, i replaced them a couple of years ago. again, no problems. love the q-power. i use 300lb lines on my rears, and 600lb on the fronts, on peter lynn kites.

Re: Back to the drawing board- how will we beat Sail Rocket?

i am not a scientist, so i don't know squat about aero or hydro dynamics, but one element that i haven't heard anybody mention is the sail rockets curved 'foil', which is one of the only two parts of the boat in the water at speed (the other being a small skeg or rudder beneath the front right float...

Re: Toby in NY Times

i'm more or less with brent on this one. some people like gymnastics. others prefer rhythmic gymnastics (twirling ribbons, etc.). i've got no problem with either one, but prefer the former to the latter. i've also got no problem with toby being the master of the airstyle domain. good on him for harn...

Re: New Kite Trick - The Flying Frog (PIC)

trick pictured is mis-identified. it's not the flying frog, but a variation on the 'o-sh*t,' which itself a version of the 'splat,' also sometimes known as the 'ohnonotagain.'

personally, i perfected this trick quite early on, and have the misshapen facial features to prove it.
