Re: Nitro 7 Proto Photos

Hello Shave & Jorg: I have a 30+ year longstanding policy to never copy anything no matter the product. When it is proposed I offer an immediate resignation (as I did vehemently in this case.) The kite shown was one of a suite of 5 protos exploring 3vs5 strut versions with similar profile and spanwi...

Re: Nitro 7 Proto Photos

Hello cnski: One year ago, Switch management made the decision to outsource their products from other vendors (bars, boards, kites, etc) and cease in-house development to reduce costs. They did not reveal this decision publically or to their customers. I'm sorry to hear you made a purchase of the H3...

Re: Nitro 7 Proto Photos

Hello Lewmt: That proto was built in early 2018 to the late 2017 Nitro7 design brief calling for lighter weight, faster turning and better re-launch. Testing with a variety of pro and advanced riders including challenging gusty overpowered Gorge conditions has been 100% positive. It keeps the classi...

Been using it last couple days and like it. Especially the tide data which is important here.
Cheers!

Re: One strut kites - which the lightest of them all?

Very difficult to build a 9sqm no-strut inflatable for much under 2kg using conventional LE, canopy and bladder materials. Add a center strut at .25 - .5kg depending on C/L chord. The only way to cut the weight substantially is alternative materials and/or bladderless construction. Weight/sqm progre...

Re: Are Switch kites getting any better?

Hello Tegirinenashi: Here are the Nitro4,5,& 6 canopies overlaid. Nitro 5 had minor flattening of the wingtip profiles from T3 strut out and a slight bit of additional sweep. The major change was the 'Spider' bridle. Nitro6 as mentioned previously was completely re-profiled and the LE was curved mor...

Re: Are Switch kites getting any better?

Nitro6 was a comprehensive time-consuming revision from Nitro4 & Nitro5 while preserving the AR and general appearance. The kite's canopy and struts were totally re-profiled to reduce drag and add stability. The LE tube was changed to add sweep/curvture in the shoulders for better relaunch. The stru...

Re: How to ruin your vacation with Core

@JBrook: http://www.kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2392616 Failures in crashes on water can be sewing/construction issues like misplaced bar tacks or lack of reinforcing. Prior damage or wear and tear are also a factor. 'Tomahawks' cause canopy tears along the center strut. 'Whiplash' crashes whe...

Re: DIY onestrut kite

Kites do not sit directly overhead due to drag. That means the towpoints are in front of the kite. Not directly below. CAD software can approximate the positions if the user arbitrarily predicts the drag angle, towpoint separation and bridle length. In practice, the towpoints move during sheeting an...
