Re: Kiteboarding Smith Mountain Lake in VA

I learned to windsurf there back in the early '80's - and I remember the gusty wind. Went back a couple of years ago and looked for some kiting spots. It looked like either drift launch off a boat or off the State park beach on a south wind or maybe at the end of Smith Mt Lake Parkway on a E, W, or ...

Re: Turks and Caicos / North / Middle Caicos Wave spots

I went to TC last year for two weeks. The only wave kiting I scored was out on the reef in front of hotels in Provo. The wind has to have some north in it for that to work. Also be careful of the shallow reef - there are some deeper sandy breaks but you have to find them. But we did take a trip up t...

Re: SFO in October

How many days you staying? 3rd still works in Oct (~7 20mph+ days in 2007 - no data for 2008).
Can be cold so you might need a 4/3 or better.

Re: Can you convert an old windsurfer into kite race board?

Yep, a friend did it and placed middle of the pack in the Cabrinha Race Series in SF.

He cut down an old JP board to about 6' (that should take out the nasty tail rocker).

Re: Kitty Hawk Kites - not honest !!!

A question for all you folks defending Kittys Hawk Kites:
Would you be happy if a friend bought this kite for $600 bucks?

I think "not honest" is a bit strong, but I think they are sleazy and misleading.
Not a company I want to do business with.

Re: Jammed quick release

I know that SS makes the Surefire but I often pre-release by accident or when going toeside Hm... been using it since 2005 and never had an accident release I have had it release trying to ride blind (slacks, then pulls thru the little plastic tab). Worse, I have had it shear off at the base of the...

Re: how would you call this wave trick?

Straps are for babies
So you bash people for using straps and asking about a trick, then post a lame jump using straps? Pretty weak.
Lets see your strapless jumps or aerials.

Re: Kitesurfing near Santa Cruz in March?

I took a look at the wind archives for last march at Waddell:

6 days - light
8 days - no data
remaining days 20+

But we can have years with lots of rain and little wind too.

If the surf is too large - just head to the bay (3rd Ave or Crissy) ~50 miles from Waddel.
