Re: Foil kite vs. inflatable kite

sorry couldn't find it, can I have the link please? Thanks for asking VMAN. Here's the link: Inflatables are vastly superior to ram airs. I've summarised the reasons for the superiority of inflatables: LIFT TO DRAG RATIO (L/D) [/b]Rams have HUGE drag ("D") compared to inflatables for 3 reasons: a) ...

Re: Self-Rescue: The big problem with Ram airs

[/color] e) Wind dropouts and gear failure ALL kiters experiences a few gear failures (eg broken lines) and COMPLETE wind dropouts every year. Inflatables can be "sailed" (self-rescued) or swum to shore. If things are REALLY bad, the inflatable structure can support your weight, eg http://www.kitefo...

Self-Rescue: The big problem with Ram airs

A recent article in IKSURFMAG alludes to THE shocking problem with ram airs: Inability to "self-rescue." The article states that "everyone should feel confident that in the worst case, they can self-rescue by ... using the kite to pull themselves into shore." Not only is this impossible with ram air...

So, to sum it up, Epic Infinity is a disguished foil kite
Ummm - not exactly sure what you're trying to say here. But if you're trying to say the "Epic Infinity is like a DISGUSTING foil kite," you'd be pretty close to the mark.

Epic Infinity Hopeless in Light Winds & Racing

Epic have implicitly acknowledged the INFERIORITY their 17m kite - the" Infinity" for light winds: http://www.kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=2389492&p=983190 The conditions were very light and EPIC doesn't have a 19m kite for racing The entire design philosophy of the 17 m Infinity is problematic. ht...

Re: Pump me up to the forum - a question.

Inflatables are vastly superior to ram airs. I've summarised the reasons for the superiority of inflatables: LIFT TO DRAG RATIO (L/D) [/b]Rams have HUGE drag ("D") compared to inflatables for 3 reasons: a) Increased friction at the "boundary layer"; ie interface between air & kite, because of minut...

Thanks Pullstrings :thumb: Your support, along with many supportive PMs, the bullying of ram lovers ( :thumb: Da Yoda, Dave_5280, socommk23, Chris Calthrop, Ted Bautista, et al) and affiliates of Epic (OldnBroken and his various logins, Kiteus Maximus, Kite2Heaven, etc) gives me the STRENGTH to keep...

Re: Dead or dying kiteboarding companies

Makers of RAM AIR kites are slowly dying. Ram air kites still sell, but their popularity is declining. Ram air sales, as a proportion of the total number of kites sold, continue to fall. This is a good thing, because ram air kites are aerodynamically inferior compared to inflatables. :thumb: Pumpy ....

Flight into the Arctic - Impossible with a Ram Air Kite

It's interesting that an INFLATABLE kite was chosen. The requirements of this type of jump (stability, reliability in flight, safety, range, and intrinsic floatation) meant that an inflatable kite was ESSENTIAL. A ram air would've been too risky/dangerous. :thumb: Pumpy ..... :pump: http://www.iksur...

Re: Lightwind Kite recommendations (Big guy)

But I think most beginers (sic) avoid foil kites "thanks" to PMU missinformation (sic). PLEASE don't buy a ram air for light wind. Inflatables are vastly superior to ram airs. I've summarised the reasons for the superiority of inflatables in light winds: 20140701 Flysurfer Speed 3 deluxe21m backsta...
