Re: best foil kite for gusty conditions

The QUESTION is the problem https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affirmative_conclusion_from_a_negative_premise?wprov=sfti1 There is NO “best foil kite for gusty conditions!” Foil kites, aka “ram airs,” are aerodynamically INFERIOR compared to inflatables, particularly in gusts. Please let me know if you...

Predictions for Ram Airs in 2018

Well, it's that time of year again. Time to divert the attention momentarily from riding waves and busting moves (or for ram lovers, growing their pony tails and World of Warcraft) and make some predictions about ram air kites in 2018. Previous predictions about ram air failures have proved to be am...

Re: Ram airs crash in 2017

There is nothing new, of course ram kites are problematic if you like ride in open ocean 1-5 km from shore in LW :) but if you riding nearnormal shore perimeter than there is nothing worse withthem. Just they have bigger hangtime and nicer low wind possibilities than LEI. But of course with ram you...

Re: Ram airs crash in 2017

I have never had to swim in when flying a foil kite. The only times that I have been unable to relaunch a kite in the water is with lei's. Has to float in from about 500m out on Wednesday because my bloody ozone edge wouldn't relaunch in sub 10 knots. Had I been on my chrono it would never have fal...

Ram airs crash in 2017

Well, it's that time of year again. Time for a wrap-up and analysis of the failures of ram air kites in 2017. Despite a multitude of ridiculous over-the-top CLAIMS from ram lovers, ram airs cRaSHeD. It's interesting to note that NO ram airs..... no NOT ONE (!)…. feature anywhere near the top of the ...

Re: Best bankrupt?

That I what I was told by two best reps at different times in relation to the North CL release. The story was that North leased the "bow" design that was supposedly purchased from the Legaignoux brothers by Best. North never paid up, so Best finally just took the North CL release as payment. NOT tr...

Re: Best bankrupt?

I don't know what they have in place with their suppliers, but they were in the hole with Neil Pryde for close to a million dollars. NP did owe BEST a similar amount for use of the kite patents so maybe they traded it away and came to an agreement for future production. I'm sorry, but that is just ...

Re: Foil kite vs. inflatable kite

sorry couldn't find it, can I have the link please? Thanks for asking VMAN. Here's the link: Inflatables are vastly superior to ram airs. I've summarised the reasons for the superiority of inflatables: LIFT TO DRAG RATIO (L/D) [/b]Rams have HUGE drag ("D") compared to inflatables for 3 reasons: a) ...

Re: Self-Rescue: The big problem with Ram airs

[/color] e) Wind dropouts and gear failure ALL kiters experiences a few gear failures (eg broken lines) and COMPLETE wind dropouts every year. Inflatables can be "sailed" (self-rescued) or swum to shore. If things are REALLY bad, the inflatable structure can support your weight, eg http://www.kitefo...

Self-Rescue: The big problem with Ram airs

A recent article in IKSURFMAG alludes to THE shocking problem with ram airs: Inability to "self-rescue." The article states that "everyone should feel confident that in the worst case, they can self-rescue by ... using the kite to pull themselves into shore." Not only is this impossible with ram air...
