Re: Tube vs Softkite - an epic battle?

Pumpy is the trolls troll, someone for Pullstrings to look up to. Typical trolling and abuse from a ram lover. Ram lovers can’t win arguments based on facts, so shoot the messenger. Flysurfer's Ralf Groesl AGREED with ALL of the points I’ve made over the years, withstanding the abuse and hysteria o...

Re: Tube vs Softkite - an epic battle?

Summarising the points from Flysurfer's Ralf Groesl: Interesting blog from Ralf Groesel, kite designer: 1) Ram airs have INFERIOR handling "Now this is where the trouble starts..." 2) Ram airs have INFERIOR jumping and higher drag "Lift in kitesurfing defines the ability to jump high. A Tube-kite pr...

Re: Important Message: I almost died - Gunnar Biniasch

OK, here we go. Ram lovers are going to call this "trolling" and try to get me banned (again), but it MUST be said: Gunnar's choice of ram air kites was instrumental in this near-disaster. Ram air kites were banned from course racing in 2015 because of safety concerns: http://www.kiteforum.com/viewt...

In the time I have been learning and contributing here, I have found Toby to be in the lead of what is pretty much the last free forum on this planet.
I agree. But I think Toby is a bit too tolerant of ram lovers and their propaganda.

Re: Video of Ram Air Inversion Disaster

I do agree with the many of the stupid claims on light wind. For my weight, 8kts is about the minimum on an 18M foil. I could move up to a 21M to get an extra knot but I don't think its worth it. :thumb: Looks like we're on the same page re. the 7-8 knot low end limit. Although there are some situa...

Re: Video of Ram Air Inversion Disaster

Ram airs have no business being on the water Only makes some sense on snow....sand...grass...with steady light, medium winds Foilboards are so efficient with LW tube in 5-6 knots that Rams aren't necessary Of course there are always ( as PMU likes to put it) BS claims that some ride the water in 3-4...

Re: Video of Ram Air Inversion Disaster

clip_image012_0006.jpg I mean this ...its possible or not with ram air?? Sure it is possible. Why not? Rewind lines to bar like lei. Grab fabric, pull via bridle the other side tip to you. Or put kite as taco and roll it while swimming. Just don't pull the kite via lines, swim towards it. Kite is w...

Re: Video of Ram Air Inversion Disaster

What a disastrous 10 metre walk back to the beach, to admit to himself there actually wasn't any wind. Ok, ok, I concede that in THIS CASE the walk back to the beach wasn't too bad. But in MANY situations, walk/swim backs with ram airs ARE disastrous. ALL kiters experiences a few gear failures (eg ...

Video of Ram Air Inversion Disaster

Despite the LIES of ram lovers, ram air kites have innumerable problems caused by a lack of internal rigidity. One of these is a tendency to flop, twist, and invert, leading to DISASTERS like this:
