Re: Surfboard for bigger waves

I agree that you don't want wide or short and I will also add that you don't want real light either. A few years ago I picked up a 2010 North Kontact 5'10. I am also 5'10 and 165lbs and this board works very well for me in large surf. Stable, plenty of drive, and very quick rail to rail due to its g...

Re: Which are the best spots to kite in France?

I used to live in Brussels and would drive over to Wissant in France, just west of the chunnel entrance. Lots of guys from Paris there. Windy, with exposure to the Atlantice rather than the North Sea. Nice wave riding too.

Re: Getting worked in big surf.....

Nice explanation by BW. Thx for posting. That had been my strategy for years. As soon as I would go upside down, I would just let go. This seems to work well when the kite is powered and high in the window. But if the kite is low, letting go generally leads to the kite ending up in the wash. I am th...

Re: Getting worked in big surf.....

Good discussion. Living in PR we get to kite big waves whenever there is wind to go with them. I think I had just been lucky to date not to get seriously worked. We all have been knocked around in the foam ball, but this was on a totally different level. Surfing, we are used to swimming vertical to ...

Re: Getting worked in big surf.....

Naishdude, that is a very good idea when riding big surf. I have been drug by my leash upside down and it is not fun.

I had not thought about looping the kite. That sounds like a winner as you will be sure to keep tension on the lines and pull you out of trouble quickly.

Getting worked in big surf.....

Last week I got worked by a large split peak wave. By large I am talking double overhead plus. I chicken jybed and was trying to out run it when the 2 peaks merged, pitched and ate me for lunch. Before I could get to the surface (and get a breath), my kite, which I crashed, got nailed by the white w...

Re: wave kite with excellent low end?

So many variables at play. Your size, your break, strapped or strapless, ability level, wind direction....etc etc. I am relatively light (160lbs) and I had North Evo's in 2010. The low end was too much for me. But if you rode them in the sweet spot of their range, they were always where you wanted t...

Re: NSP surfboards for kiting?

I bought the NSP 5'6 fish. It was being sold dirt cheap at the end of the season so I felt like I could not go wrong. First thing I did was change the fin set up. I installed some nice twin fins. Huge difference. I ride it in the summer in Delaware in usually sub 20mph small, mushy surf. The board r...

Re: 1 kite quiver question

Most of the guys here have a 10m and an 8m, but we have trade winds. The best kiter in NW Puerto Rico has one kite, a 9m. If its too light, go surf. If its really windy, make sure your go to kite has good top end. Strapless floaty surfboard for light days, directional kite board for windy days. Work...
