Re: Line length, gybing and down-looping

Foiling is such a technical sport, you really appreciate just how skilled those top riders are when you try to emulate them. There's guys gybing at full speed 30 knots within a couple of metres of each other in some of the races these days. Respect.

Re: Line length, gybing and down-looping

Ok thanks guys, more practice needed .seems it takes so much longer to learn new stuff as I get older. Dave the La Ventana video is interesting in that at about 49 seconds there are 2 Kiter’s gybing together and the second one almost does a tip crash despite the majority of the gybe looking sweet. T...

Line length, gybing and down-looping

Some advice please from those of you racing or high-performance freeriding with racefoil kites. Im finally starting to get my foiling gybes sorted but find especially with my 15m R1 (but also my 11 sometimes) that I have a habit of crashing the bottom tip of the kite in the water on the downloop (an...

Fuselage length

I have noticed that generation 1 racefoils eg Sword 1 had a few cm distance between the front wing and the fuselage, gen 2 eg. Sword 2 reduced this distance. I think this was done to reduce torsional effects of the front wing relative to the mast. The latest generation racefoils seem to have gone to...

Re: Vacuum pumps

Well I found a fridge pump at the local scrap metal yard for $10. It’s all running fine so i’ll do a test run and see how we go. Thanks guys.

Vacuum pumps

Wanting to do a small modification/repair to a carbon foil. I don’t own a vacuum bagging pump but have used one some years ago. I have lots of laminating experience but I will need to vacuum this carbon laminate to do a good job. Is there any good cheap solution for a vacuum pump for a small job? If...

Re: Low Aspect to High Aspect

Just a few sessions. Don’t believe everything you read here. The forum has become dominated by guys who seem to like slow turny stuff. I think it depends on where you live. Personally I love race foils for free riding. Once you have the skills they deliver amazing low end and speed and they jump to ...

Re: Advice on foil kite

for 12-17 knots a decent 9m LEI will be fine and is a lot less hassle. Unless you are racing or after max speed a foil kite is of little point. I have a 9m chrono v2. Its nice, but for freeriding no better than a 9m edge to be honest, although does hang a bit better in transitions. Its a notch down ...

Re: America's Cup 2021, the hydrofoil AC75

Cant wait for it. The tech they get from designing their T foils will directly influence kitefoils. The only thing I dont get is where are they going to get the power and the lever arm to hinge one of those foils down while underway. There seems to be no way you could get enough manpower to do that ...
