Re: Static Shocks

Happened to a friend a few months ago. There was a thunderstorm passing to the south of us. He launched his kite and immediately let go of the bar because he was getting a painful shock. It is surprising to me that there is that much electricity in the air even when you are far removed from the thun...

Re: Best Kiteboarding being tight as f**k to Gin Kiteboardin

So a buddy of mine tells me that one of his first kites was a Takoon C-kite called a Kahoona. Anybody know if there was such a thing? If so could this be a problem for Best?

Re: Leaving lines attached when packing away

One thing I'll say is that since I started keeping my lines attached, I have never forgotten my bar at the beach.

Re: Wakeboarding Should be Taught First

I have never wakeboarded so I wonder if the opposite is true. Kiteboarding experience would help me learn wakeboarding.

Also some schools offer instruction where the student is towed by a boat to learn board skills. For example

Re: With 1 Death already, Design for a safty device is neede

The radio transmitter idea could work with the instructor activating it. Probably not a solution for the kiter to carry the transmitter because the radio waves would have limited propagation in salt water (or even fresh water) so if he was dragged underwater would not be reliable. Many electronic de...

Some of these clips are from "Upwind, the Launch of Kiteboarding" which is a DVD that was distributed free in a magazine a few years ago and was discussed here

Re: Distance is your friend! Video...

Agree that there's always tradeoffs and would probably require some experimentation to get it right. I think you could make it short enough that your risk of entanglement is small. As for kite ending up in a tree ... you have your safety attached and ideally you are far enough away from a tree that ...
