Re: Night kiting

I have done a bunch of night kiting in the snow. When you have to work til 4 and the sun sets at 5 a lot of winter nights turn into night kiting. Usually it helps if you are going around the time of a full moon. With a full moon you could kite all night with no problems. I'll usually put on a bike b...

Re: my next board

Epoxy and fiberglass cloth from http://www.uscomposites.com/

I can't remember if the cloth was 4oz or 6oz and if it was E or S glass. I'd probably go for the 4oz s glass on both sides of the board.

Re: my next board

I use 1/4 ply and glass each side. It is more flexy but there is no problem with that! It is quite a bit lighter then the 1/2 stuff. I have never broke any of my 1/4 boards. My original one with one side glassed (built it like 2 years ago) was starting to show some signs of cracking around where I h...

Large camber skis = better pop?

I am thinking about making a few pairs of skis this fall. Do skis that have large camber help with having good pop?

Or any other ideas to give skis better pop?

Re: Epoxy vs. Polyester Resin: the enviroment and your health

The epoxy will yellow due the UV exposure. But putting a spar varnish (with UV inhibitors) on top with stop (or slow) the yellowing.

The yellowing does take quite a bit of UV exposure. If you don't leave your board cooking in the sun every day all day.. you shouldn't have that much of a issue.

Re: Grifin kites, or monkey kites

I have a 08 7m kite. Great Kite! I picked to up to try out the monkey/griffin kites and to get a high wind kite. Out here in minnesota we don't get many high wind days... but I have had it 5-6 times in winds around 25-35 gusting to 40. It have definitely had some a great days on it and I hope for so...

Re: Fiberglass Kite Boards???

That is what I have done. 1/4 baltic birch ply with 4oz fiberglass sheet with epoxy on the bottom. Super flexy but I haven't managed to break it. Good lightwind board.

Re: Most Flat Wwater Kite Spot in Hawaii?

What about anini beach on the north end? I camped there a several years ago and went windsurfing. All waves broke farther out and (if I remember right) it was pretty flat close to shore. Great camping spot also!

Try and post on http://www.lakawa.com you'll get some more visibility with the locals. I windsurfed on cannon a few years ago and snowkited there during the winter. Not a lot of people kite on the lake during the middle of summer... the lake gets a little nasty. But maybe with the cold weather it ha...
