Re: Cape Hatteras in May

Yeh I've got a similar rig: kids (8,10), adults and a May 20th Hatteras trip coming up. We've done it twice a year for 4 years now and choose Rodanthe (Mirlo Beach) for our base. We keep saying we will try Avon or Nags Head or Frisco but we come back to Mirlo for these reasons: Nice little launch in...

Re: How long did you wait after knee surgery?

I've had basic arthroscopy on both knees. The 1st one was meniscus trimming which took about 8 weeks before I hit the slopes skiing on groomed runs. At 12 weeks I was ready for anything. The 2nd one was done this past December and it was more under the knee cap trimming/shaving - no meniscus tear. T...

Love for the Ocean Rodeo Storm 5m

Finally got it out of the bag last Wednesday morning in Rodanthe in 25-35mph NE wind. It was a 2014 that I found on Amazon for a low price. Had researched it's use with a 2014 North Quad bar and found it to be a good match. Close Y height, same 2-center line safety. OR said to add a 6" pigtail to th...

How come so much NE wind in Hatteras?

Been going to OBX for years and remember the golden days of SW wind. Seemed like every trip. Now it seems the last couple years every trip (Spring and Fall) has been mostly NE wind... I thought prevailing was SW... Anyhow going there next week and seems the forecast is NE again with the occasional S...

Re: light wind kite quest 2016

I would add Ozone Zephyr to your list. It has a higher end than alot of light wind kites. It doesn't scare me like the big TURBINE. The Turbine has one to two mph on the low end but can pull very aggressively when the gusts or surges come. It's a fairly slow turner as well. Have ridden Cabrinha Cont...

Re: 2016 North Trust Bar

I can't speak of the ring problem you're having but I have experience with the power/depower on the 2014 Quad Bar. In the early days of the bar I had the throw too far out. I figured I would want as much depower as possible. However I had trouble getting a good grip on the rope loop to depower. Unde...

Re: Update from Lewis Crathern - Please Help

This whole thread opens up so many cans of worms. When I first read Lewis's request for help my inclination as a man with a heart was to help. I'm feeling bad for his life-changing ordeal and subsequent medical and rehab costs. That he's a fellow kiter comes in to play as well. My 2nd thought was I'...
