Re: Board Size Question

Width matters more than length in terms of total area of the board. Add 5 cm length over a 40cm width and its less than a third in the increase in area compared to if you were to add 5 cm of with over a 135 cm length. And yes, rocker matters too. I have built boards with identical rocker and outline...

Re: Hung Vu, a kitesurfing pioneer, how did he help you?

I first found his online info in late 1999 or early 2000 as I was self teaching myself. It was very helpful since it covered all the basics, and did not assume that there were a bunch of other kiters at the beach - because there weren't! And no, youtube didn't even exist back then, so there were no ...

Re: Board Graphic Delaminating.

If I was fixing that I would use liquid epoxy, like Resin Research resin, which is UV stable and will be clear and not turn brown in the sun. Idon;t know anything about that stuff you have and what it might look like or how thick it is, so it might be OK, but I doubt it will be very good. I would sa...

Cool, thanks for those. The thing that surprised me the most was seeing a pic of Laird foiling with a 2 line late 1990's kite!

Re: How often do you swim in @ <10knots ?

The type of wind at different locations makes a massive difference. At home on the river I ride on I get maybe a 6 or 7 km fetch max, and might only have 2 km of wind coming over the open water. I recently was down on Lake Ontario where despite the light wind, with 100+ km of fetch and the right wea...

Re: Who calls LEIs vertical structural elements "masts"?

I think strut is the more correct word. But it's tough to battle the momentum that "mast" seems to have got. Try discussing the hydrofoil setup on a windfoil or any hydrofoil sailboat. They would have masts on both sides of the boat! I doubt they will use the word mast in the long term, it's too con...

Re: foot hook warrenty

Hey I made PVC foot hooks too. Did I post about them before or did someone else come up with the same idea? I put epoxy inside the bent part once it was shaped, to add some strength, glued on a bit of foam and wrapped with a windsurfer footstrap cover to make it comfy.

Re: It's about my nipples....

Aquaseal works great, I have used it a lot, BUT wipe with alcohol first. I had some fail a while ago and did some tests. Wiping with alcohol makes a huge difference and makes a very strong bond. A light sanding improves it a bit (with or without alcohol. But alcohol made the biggest difference by fa...

Re: Production carbon mast composition

For the record, the core does matter when it comes to stiffness, and in some cases it can matter a lot. If the skin of a foil was thin and was hollow, calculations might suggest it is OK, but in the real world as it tries to bend it would deform and become flatter, so suddenly it is not as thick, an...

Re: Production carbon mast composition

The thing that really surprises me is that this looks like EPS foam (white bead styrofoam). Yes, I know it is used in some kiteboards and surfboards, and almost all SUPs and windsurfers, but that foam has terrible structural properties. If bonding the 2 halves together they may as well just make it ...
