Re: Could someone please invent a better way to self land a kite in high wind.

.... see link which shows how effortless it was to land an IDS SB. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ia-CmjKvUAI . That is not self landing. That's releasing to the safety. If your starting point is releasing to safety then you've used up all your options from the start. You have no fallback position...

Re: Could someone please invent a better way to self land a kite in high wind.

The IDS was good but had a serious flaw. The kite would not always roll onto its back like it was supposed to. If the kite was flagged in strong wind and would not roll onto its back it still had a lot of pull. The trick was to swim towards kite to release tension or pull in center lines then relea...

Re: Could someone please invent a better way to self land a kite in high wind.

The best self land/self rescue system I ever used was the Cabrinha IDS system 2009-2013 (when using the Switchblade). This system was amaysing as one could hit the QR in any conditions and the kite would be out cold with the leading edge down and the kite facing you). Because the kite would face yo...

Re: How often do you swim in @ <10knots ?

Turbaani, If trying to push the ultimate low end then getting the Chrono V2 Ultralight over the Chrono V2 would be recommended IMO. For ultimate light winds the UL version is incredible. I have been forced to self rescue roughly 4 times with the Chrono V2 Ultralight 15m and this was probably in the ...

Re: Ozone Chrono: Standard or Ultralight?? (13m)

AndyLC, I would say you should be very cool with the 13m Chrono V2 at 65kg. I remember being out once on a LEI 13m and pushing the lightwind limits foiling, while another rider on the same foilboard and slightly heavier was on a 13m Chrono V2. When the wind dropped and my kite would not fly, the guy...

Re: Ozone Chrono: Standard or Ultralight?? (13m)

If you are planning to go in winds as light as possible ie SUB 9 knots then the UL is the way to go. I was very impressed with the 15m UL and noticed the difference even though comparing to a 11m Chrono V2. The Chrono V2 is awesome but the UL goes into ultra light winds. With self launch and land yo...

Re: Chrono / Sonic 15 or 18 for light wind and a Twin Tip ?

I am around 70kg and have flown the Ozone Chronov2 15m ultralight and Chrovo v2 11m with both race and cruising foils. I think the 15m foil kite size would be the better if you wanted to use with both twintip and foil than an 18m, however if only using a twintip i would go for the larger if wanting ...

Re: Foil kite launching on small beach

For me the safety of other beach users around me when launching and landing, is my first priority. With super light winds on a shallow beach with very little depth and dead onshore condition walking out in the water probably needs to be done as it is likely you will have to launch the kite dead down...

Re: kite for 37 kg girl

The Ozone Uno 4m is a great choice, combined with the Ozone compact bar which has a tiny chickenloop and a very short throw which is definitely a huge benefit to little kids. As a bonus using the thinner light weight race lines will add performance. What I really like about the Uno is that it can fl...
