Doing a small pump off your back foot just before you move it off the board is key to having the momentum to come out of the tack.
Sweet! I was not even aware this was happening.
Gunnars tacking video is really good: https://vimeo.com/102126847

He talks about it at 1:30

Re: FS speed 5 vs Sonic V1

I had the Sonic 1's and rode a Speed 5 12m once. The Speed 5 felt to me better behaved and more stable with less surging or no wingtip collapses compared to the Sonic 1. The Speed felt like 90% of the performance of the Sonic (in jumping, speed, and hangtime). I didn't get to try them back to back i...

Re: Levitaz Vs. Ghost Whisperer

Fast replacement of broken masts is nice, but shouldn't the masts not break? :-? Talking with people who have ridden both, either company makes good foils, but you'll have to narrow it down. Both Levitaz and Slingshot/Moses offer several different wings and masts with very different riding character...

Re: On the foil but unable to go upwind!?

I've had this happen at the absolute low end with some current. Even on a race foil and race kite I get to a point where I'm barely holding ground upwind in very light wind. When the wind is really light, and you're going 2.5x or 3x faster than the wind, the apparent wind angle shifts way around in ...

Re: Why pro-riders move the hip forwards?

Maybe their legs and foot straps are just where they want them, but because of the relatively lower speeds going upwind they need less front foot pressure, so they lean their torsos back to compensate? When going upwind on a long strut race foil, the board is leaned over 45 degrees or more. The kit...

Re: Why pro-riders move the hip forwards?

It's also about locking your rear knee straight to make a direct coonnection with the board. Then the front leg is flexed to control ride height. Locking your rear leg straight puts your hips forward in the position shown. I've noticed the biggest difference between me (mid fleet) and the top riders...

Re: Which watch for real-time speed read out

Locosys GW60. It’s the only one with a doppler and running at 5hz. Made specially for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Case close. What does Doppler do? I've never had trouble with the ambit giving me inaccurate values (spikes). Or are there other inaccuracies i dont know about? Mostly looking at speed...

Re: Which watch for real-time speed read out

From reading the manual looks like no max speed recorded and no knots as unit. Not sure about tom tom, but the suunto ambit has 100s of user created "apps" you can upload to the watch to have it display whatever you want. I added a max speed in knots readout for example. The display has three lines...

Isn't area farther away from the center exactly what you want if you are trying to increase torsional stiffness? Area away from the center of the area increases the polar moment of inertia.
