Re: What got you into Hydrofoiling?

Dinghy racing growing up and in college > some windsurfing > kiting > formula kite raceboards (the big fin things) > hydrofoil racing I was always excited about racing, but the formula raceboards never took off at all on the East Coast of the US. I thought hydrofoils would never take off either. No ...

Re: Andersson Foils Bi-Directional Test ride video.

Looks like it works! Full disclosure, I'm generally skeptical of twintip foils. I think doing a smooth foiling transition or carve is the best part of foiling. Are you able to do foiling transitions on it? Past twin tip foils seemed to have been able to. Looks difficult to get going after the transi...

Re: Levitaz Bionic

I've heard the new ones (with bigger stabilizer) are really good, but the old one with the tiny seagull wing stabilizer was pretty twitchy, making it difficult to ride. That's pretty much the same with all race fouls though. The new generation is much more stable and easier to ride.

Re: Line length, gybing and down-looping

Dave the La Ventana video is interesting in that at about 49 seconds there are 2 Kiter’s gybing together and the second one almost does a tip crash despite the majority of the gybe looking sweet. The around 32 seconds? That one is interesting in seeing how different the turn radius of the kite can ...

Re: Line length, gybing and down-looping

I would guess probably not putting your kite high enough before the downloop. I should be directly overhead. Also, maybe not enough speed. If you have speed and ride towards the kite as it downloops. it pretty much downloops in place, as seen in this video by the guy on the right at 0:29: https://ww...

Re: Liquid Force Impulse review

Which liquid force wings are interchangeable? Can this wing be put on any LF fuselage including the original Foil Fish? Or are the 2018 ones with the black mast and fuselage different?

Re: Who rides the tallest mast?

It's amazing how much difference 10cm makes, I recently changed from 91cm to 101cm, and wish I changed earlier. I agree! Went from 95 cm to 105 cm (I think) and often where I would have over-foiled in a gust or wave, everything is fine and I keep going no problem. Makes me more confident to go fast...

Re: Race lines

I don't think they really affect your low end. They do weigh less and have less drag, but I don't think it's enough to make a real difference. For a 25m lineset, 1mm only saves you 0.1 kg over 1.5 mm lines. I don't think drag on the lines really affects low end where you are limited by power to get ...

Re: Crossing a lull by pumping? Material & How to?

This video of Jacob Olivier on a Mike's Lab race foil last year has him gliding/pumping over 100m: https://www.iksurfmag.com/kitesurfing-news/2017/01/jacob-olivier-extreme-pumping/ He has serious talent though, so your results may vary  I know I've never had much luck pumping on my race foil. I...
