Re: Wave riding July - August

the place you're looking for does not exist. Otherwise, I would be there. :)

Check out Mancora, Peru and the beaches south of there.

Re: old fart round the world tour

I agree with Hugh2. I think places to develop will be impactful. RadDrDuke suggested foiling - also a great idea. skill goals would help. You could easily get in 300 days of kiting which is 5 to 10 years worth for people who live in not so great places and have day jobs! SPI is great to progress - i...

Re: If you can get rid of any style of kiteboarding, what style would you possibly get rid of and why?

LOL no, this is for a college assignment. I am writing a report about kitesurfing and some of the challeges we face like bans, danger, and problems within our own community. Trying to give a real life demonstration of the situations we encounter. Okay, HellYeah, you get the benefit of the doubt. Bu...

Re: If you can get rid of any style of kiteboarding, what style would you possibly get rid of and why?

I smell a troll. If you are really in high school and started kiting in 2008 you must have been about 6 years old when you started. hmmm...

Re: Improve Kite Drifting Technique

I agree Matteo - the original poster wanted to 'park' the kite and I mixed the discussion of a parked kite and a drifting kite - probably adding to the confusion! My point of the video for the original poster was to show a more realistic wave ride than the pro videos where some kite movement is bein...

Re: Improve Kite Drifting Technique

a couple points to add: First, you need side shore or side off for this too work. Forget it with side on. Second, I suggest to get to drifting, you not actually park the kite and try to work with it but instead try to use lesser and lesser kite movements, more and more subtle. And eventually, you mi...

Re: Cheapest country for lessons?

I would think the most cost effective strategy would be a place with consistent wind, cheap lodging, cheap airfare, and located where renting a car is not needed. I agree. Keep flight and per-day costs down and time on the water up. Also, I'm not an instructor, but I don't begrudge them $100/hour. ...

Re: Portugal - Guincho or Viana

My French is not so good but the rough translation is: "Forget Guincho. It is too crowded already and we don't need more kooks on twin tips."

Re: Foiling - only for frequent riders or occasionals as well

There's a huge point missing in the discussion - foiling (and almost anything in kiting) is a ton of fun while you're learning. The comments are 20-30 sessions until you can do it well - sure - but the 20-30 sessions while you suck are also FUN! Just like you found it a huge thrill the first time yo...

Re: Hydrofoil board leash

great ideas here. I haven't tried the 'sit on board' technique. Great idea if the board is close after the crash. next time. I am new to foiling. In one of my first sessions, the board got away from me and went fast down wind straight into the kite and lines. End of session. In another early session...
