Re: Need a new term for being lofted horizontally!

Plummet, I suspect you may be a rare kiter, to both have such high winds with some frequency and to actually go out in them. I am not saying there aren't others but I suspect there are actually substantially fewer than we read about on here. I would try to avoid making it seem so easy and reliably "...

Fatality Analysis, 2000 to July 2006

Fatality Analysis, 2000 to July 2006 An article from August 2006 follows that was requested for publication. Some things have changed since that time including perhaps a reduction in kiting fatality numbers. The primary cause is still apparent today, Operator Error, flat kites when properly preflig...

Re: Need a new term for being lofted horizontally!

Give Toby his due, moderating a site like this for 17 years while living and breathing kiting, you gain a tremendous amount of both general and specific knowledge and examples. This applies regardless of the actual kites he uses and I value his opinion. I have done since 2002. I have studied a lot o...

Re: Need a new term for being lofted horizontally!

Lofting certainly got my attention at the time or at least once my head returned to normal after a few months. I defined the term to cover most types of involuntary lifting with a kite. As you say it was a lot easier to have to deal with this with traditional C-kits than the current BOW and high dep...

Re: Another casualty in Italy

I am sorry to hear it pmaggie and wish his family and friends strength in getting through this harsh time. Please do share what other information you learn about this terrible accident. I did some rapid searching in Italian but was unable to come up with anything which is unusual. Thanks and take care

Re: Need a new term for being lofted horizontally!

I am glad you weren't injured. Inland conditions can be dangerously gusty but that isn't news to you. If you continue to go out in those kind of conditions, I wish you good luck as skill may not cover things in all instances. Anyway, the term "lofting" covers what you experienced. It is defined as: ...

Re: GoPro Hero 7 Image Smoothing As A Gimbal Replacement

Yes, it was in a chest mount. Out of the way and largely out of mind unlike a larger gimbal setup. GoPro tech support sent the following to me, without my asking for it btw when I called with a question about HyperSmooth. What is HyperSmooth? HyperSmooth is the next level of Electronic Image Stabili...

Re: Extreme Kitesurf Accidents

I looked into this. Going from memory, there was a military training operation underway over several days. Military helicopters were flying all over. In this case a larger chopper was flying fairly low and the kiter was on the beach with his kite up. Reading between the lines, I suspect his kite was...

GoPro Hero 7 Image Smoothing As A Gimbal Replacement

Gyroscopic gimbals have become a big thing in action camera photography. I recently tried the GoPro Hero 7 which contains an application called "HyperSmooth" with electronically reduces camera and subject motion without the bulk, mounting issues and added costs of a gimbal. I have had it out for onl...
