Re: Harbour Island Bahamas

If you can make it all the way to the south end of the island and there is favorable wind from the NNE to E to S to WNW, Lighthouse Beach is incredible. It is a trek from Harbour Island to be sure and even once you are down there getting in can be difficult with the poor road. http://www.eleutherato...

Re: Harbour Island Bahamas

I have kited there a couple of times. You may see another kiter there perhaps as I have in the past. There are a ton of dead shallow coral heads just off the beach east of the island. So, I would use something with short fins and try to avoid low tide or at least hitting the heads. I would avoid the...

Re: Eleuthera

Friend is going end of January to Eleuthera and is interested in lessons . Can't seem to locate any in a search. Anyone know of any? I don't know of any instructors on the island offhand. I know a fellow in the south of Eleuthera who may have a contact, Donald at http://www.eleutheratours.com/ They...

Re: Kite fatality in Thailand

There is no assurance that you will save your life with a hook knife but it might help. There is total certainty that if you fail to have one with you in a tangle emergency, it will do you no good whatsoever. I was once snagged by a fish hook on a tensioned line. I was happy to slice the line in bar...

Re: Kite fatality in Thailand

An excellent question with a fairly extensive range of possible causes unfortunately. The most common cause that comes to mind is the kiter being tangled in one or more of the kite lines. Both QR can be open but unless you are lucky enough to remove the tangles by hand, or failing that cutting out s...

Re: Kite fatality in Thailand

A report out of Ireland without some of the serious translation errors. Again, I am sorry for family and friends dealing with this tragedy. The causes of this accident can be fairly common in some areas which kiters should be aware of. "The man drowned in a heavy surf off the Hua Hin beach Elaine Ke...

Re: Kite fatality in Thailand

RIP and strength to his family and friends. A rough computer translation of http://www.newtv.co.th/news/9437 follows: "The young Icelandic Kite surfing in the sea, Hua Hin died in the wind. At 13.00 hrs. On 20 Dec., Police Lieutenant Charoen Kongkai, Vice Inspector of Hua Hin Police Station, Prachua...

Re: Revl Arc cam: Anybody preorder one?

It's beyond ridiculous that after all this time there is not a single proper independent review out there. Despite all the apparent production issues it must be practical to get a final version out to a reputable tech reviewer, allowing us normal Joe public to get an idea of whether it is worth buy...

Re: Hung Vu, a kitesurfing pioneer, how did he help you?

Thank you for the input! We could use some help. Does anyone have some full-resolution kiting or beach photos of Hung Vu from the early days (1998 to 2001 or so) in the DR , Maui , Tampa or Ottawa? I have written tribute to his impressive accomplishments for the kitborder magazine but we’re having t...
