Re: Gong single strut kite

Ive flown clouds since they came out, and borrowed a solo for a brief session in light wind last year. 17.5, pulled like a truck, turned like an oil tanker, weighed ...plenty. I wonder if it is really lighter than a light multi strut kite. This might matter less in smaller sizes but big deal in 12m ...

Re: wave riding: why isn't bigger better?

I think increasing wing size benefit is equally about extending low speed performance, reducing uncontrolled acceleration, and increasing pitch stability without getting “locked in” to too much yaw and roll stability. 733D7D95-430A-45B6-97FC-2959E4ECAEE9.gif I think the goal for fun and stability is...

Re: how do you repair moses silente mast?

Looking at the pictures there is a rust stain that goes down from the plate into the top of the mast, and the plate itself looks like a mix of fiberglass and carbon. The best way to fix it would be without adding metal, especially aluminum, which has worse corrosion problems worse and faster than st...

Re: how do you repair moses silente mast?

I would try to get someone who is an experienced carbon artist to rescue that mast, unless you are pretty confident yourself, and not worried about losing your foil if it breaks again. Converting to tuttle or rebuilding the top of the mast/plate are both options... would not put any metal plate in t...

Re: Ideal foil depth for wave foiling?

Ive yet to do any “real” wave foiling but love to play in swells and steep chop. What i’ve noticed about foil depth is deeper does slow you down a bit, especially if underpowered/sheeted out. Whats fun for me is quick-ish turns when powered, letting the board kiss the face of the wave and accelerate...

Re: Chicken Loop Bye Bye?

I'd agree pulley is not needed, but depending on the CL he does have a point about quick clip in through the carabiner. But for simplicity and tuning ease, I would use a ring and a CL that was easy to connect quickly, if I still used a CL at all that is. Have ridden BRM style connection 2 years, not...

Re: Flats Spots on Turks and Caicos

Providenciales surf breaks? If you’re comfy with “next stop new york” side off, sure. You’ll want e to n to nw wind. Not sure its a whole 2 mi to reefs, varies by location. If you dont want tightrope with no net situation for probably unremarkable waves, enjoy long bay and flats e of leeward. And ma...

Re: HP kite video ; ideal kite for surfers ? - relaunch from water

That’s cool! But what happens if you crash “for real” with 20m lines and the kite rolls or flips over? And a wave goes over it? Also, riding 7.5 kite in 10 knots on such short lines is very inpressive, but keys to this are also rider weight, and board details. I really am intrigued by the auto zenit...

Re: improving upwind angle

Highest wind angle I ever got I think was with a big c kite and a long alaia (6’9”). Easily better than 30 deg to wind. Problem was edging a little more made the kite fall. And speed was like 4-5 knots. Very efficient in a limited way but very limited angles and only fun for a couple of minutes. Bes...
