Re: How to turn a hydrofoil - and what is YAW ?

Since the stabilizer is creating an opposite moment to the front wing (to counter-balance the forward pitching from the tow point being so high up on the rider's waist) then the dihedral angle will be opposite but complementary to the front wing. I do not think this is intended to replace vertical ...

Re: How to turn a hydrofoil - and what is YAW ?

Mossy i think the dihedral or anhedral on the tail of kite foils mainly to give some lateral projected area and avoid needing a vertical tail, since there is little net lift from the tail I wouldn't say it affects the handling in the way you propose. Flat or lower anhredral main wings in kite foils ...

Re: How to turn a hydrofoil - and what is YAW ?

How I see it, it’s a little like riding a bike, you’re constantly starting to fall and correcting to get a reaction force that keeps you from falling, both when riding “straight” and in a curve or turn. Twisting to start yaw on a foil, are you not simply starting a “fall” toward the turn apex, such ...

Re: Importance of foil weight/float

Heavy things hurt more when they hit you.
If you fall poorly (ahead of the board) you hope the board/foil has little inertia and little stability so it may not hit you, or if it does, may hurt less.

Re: Balance question - before I get my drill out....

Just remove foot hooks and find your balance. Strapless it will take a few sessions. Strapped it could take a few years. Once you find your proper stance, add inserts if needed to use foot hooks again. But decent chance you’ll be happier strapless. Definitely easier to avoid hard crashes strapless. ...

Re: 9-15 Knots, choppy water, FW Evo, what kite?

Unless you drop the kite all the time and are impatient about relaunch but don't wan to learn new techniques and don't actually have the wind go below, 10 kts, I would say get 13.4 cloud WITHOUT strut. It's in the light wind that the extra weight of the strut will be felt But it's only 150 grams so ...

Re: hydrofoil at max speed limit

Isn’t the standard course for speed a 90-110 lead in leg to build apparent and then a bear away over a curve to 140-150 or so?
Is this ok for foils also?

Different concept as well as implementation judging by the video teases, litigation unlikely. Unless the Brazilian is rich stubborn and dumb, which is perhaps possible

Re: Hydrofoil Videos

I think mhl 130 was the one he switched to from the stringy wing. Maybe he has a 150 too, but doesn’t look like a heavyweight.
Struts will be an option... probably not for me but who knows...
