Re: Nobile foil board nightmare!

If you didn’t put mast on backwards, why is the crushed part of the rear of the mast located exactly as far from the screw as the distance from the front screw to the leading edge? Is there an explanation? Obviously something pressed on it very hard to dig a groove through there and deform the metal...

Re: Strapless surfkite board fins

Sounds reasonable to me.
I kinda like solid glass or g10 futures, very stiff and resist rocks and sandbars as well as possible. Slight weight penalty versus carbon/foam core is worth it I think.

Re: Does it matter to have a heavy board for foiling

The less weight in the nose of the board, the easier it will be to feel what the foil is doing in the water while you are trying to master carves and jibes. The more weight and momentum swinging out there in front of you, the harder it will be. your brain “feels” the combination of the board/foil ce...

Re: Do I really need a hot coat?

Sounds great really then, however you fill and finish the glass.
Nothing like your own personal benchmark to guide a build.
Looks good, too!

Re: Do I really need a hot coat?

Depends on the board design. For durability, soft cores, and designs where the glass is a major strucural component (ie 8oz or more of glass) go on and do the full or hot coat. Filling in all the waviness between the fiberglass yarns will yield a thicker skin and it’s the resin between fibers that r...

Paint

I am interested in getting a carbon foil. I like my Al one but it’s heavy and the wing options are limited. I ride often in dark or murky water, and live in the south, where the sun is hot. I want my foil visible, and cool. If I buy one that only comes in black, what are good painting options? I don...

Re: Moses 2018

Never have to worry about it w/ stainless into stainless. Oh yeah, you do. 1/4 turn can friction weld (gall) stainless fasteners together. Have to be sawn apart and replaced. USE GREASE! And don’t over tighten! Stainless in brass or bronze though, does not gall, and the softer metal yields if overs...

Re: Marks on board - please tell me what is the cause of this

Impact. It’s “funny” how things you don’t expect can ding or even puncture a board. I body dragged a few hundred feet in 8 knots and 6” chop on my fst FireWire surfboard wearing an engine harness with carbon slider bar, pretty low profile, but the sharp-ish edges of the carbon bar dug holes in the d...
