Re: OBX nasty water warning

Thanks for the public service warning. Scary situation. Hope you’re better soon! Also for public benefit, if you’re willing: Where were you riding? What’s the organism? Vibrio? Others? Multiple? Did you cut yourself in the water? Did you have a previous injury/open wound/sore? What’s your age? Do yo...

Re: Best way to add bolt threads in the board for the mast when building board?

If you want to groove a coupling nut (or other small round piece of hardware), chuck it in a drill and hold the edge/corner of a file against it while turning medium speed. Similarly you can taper threads this way if needed (on flat of the file of course), etc. works fine with a hand drill.

Re: Best way to add bolt threads in the board for the mast when building board?

You can mount inserts from the deck, just make sure they are in a solid column of epoxy so loads are spread between deck and bottom laminate. Or you can get long nuts or specialty fasteners somewhere, admittedly a pain...

Re: Cloud vs Reo.

Well there was one who seemed to say the clouds weren’t good after trying to fly one once. Surprised he didn’t say that about his hydrofoil also. Or did he master foiling in an hour? Anyway I first tried a cloud in 2013. Immediately I could tell some advantages, disadvantages and differences, but it...

Re: Groove Skate issue

Use grease/anti-seize!
Prevents
Corrosion
Seizing
Galling
Also reduces wear on tools and bolt heads etc., you don’t have to torque it as hard.
tefgel, lanolin, trailer bearing grease, anything beats nothing!

Re: Difference on the small foil boards..

I think it’s about cg. Cg of a foil is usually “in” the mast closer to the foil than the mast plate or top. Cg of a board is in the middle of the board. Cg of the total is on a line in between. The longer in front of foil the board projects, the closer to the board, and farther from the foil, the to...

Re: Flying Wing Commentary

When L & F wrote “symmetrical” did “they” mean in the aerodynamic sense or the geometric sense?
Are “winglits” sharp or , erm, “blunted”
Why fences? They’ve been unnecessary on conventional, stables, and canard configurations so far...

Re: Torsional flex - now a good thing :-)

if they were clever they would figure out how to make the forward heelside edge twist up to allow efficient lower rocker but avoid catching that front corner on steep chop, etc.
Were they clever, or just too clever by half?
reviews will be interesting...

Re: tuftlite 6.6 soulfish for strapless surfing

Go for something similar but smaller. How much smaller depends on your body, your skill, style and conditions. Maybe 6’, 20-21” width, 2.5” thick 30-35 ln volume if youre 75-85kg and riding in say 10-20 knots? If you’re smaller or you are luckier with waves and wind that is usually >15, go to the sm...
