Re: Naish XL surf wing

I kite with the thrust surf medium wing and really like it. I have a surf large and the XL and found the xl to be way too stable. I put the standard rear wing on the xl and it improved the performance. I then cut 1 inch off of each end of the standard rear wing and the xl was way better. Still not a...

Re: Anyone riding the KS1 Naish foil?

I've been kiting the Thrust surf with medium wing for the last month. It is a slow speed carving machine. It will carve a very tight radius turn at what feels like a fast walk. Very easy. It is super stable but slow. My top speed is about 17 mph. Average speed is less than 10mph. The slow speed and ...

Re: DIY Hydrofoil South Padre Island, Texas

My short foil is 30 inches 76cm from bottom of board to lowest part of the foil. You need to be at least 250 yds. Off shore to be deep enough. I never hit the bottom when I was far enough off shore. I foiled 5 days in a row, covered miles with no problem. This might be the best place to learn to foi...

Re: my build your own attempt

For binding inserts I use snowboard binding inserts available at snowboardmaterials.com.
I have used them for years, never had one fail. For wings I mold in a piece of t6 aluminum
In the fuse, drill and tap m8 threads after molded.

Re: Naish Pivot 17m²

I really liked the Drafts, but the Pivot fits my needs much better. I will for sure buy a 16 or 17 Pivot
when Naish offers one. The Pivots are the best all around kites I've flown in years.

Re: Stingray protection

I have to claify my last post. It was my fault I was stuck three times in two days. I stood up in shallow water. Follow deaynej's advice and you'll be fine. I'll be back foiling there soon.

Re: Stingray protection

Ya it was me. Stuck 3 times in two days. The good news was I wasn't stuck the other 4 days! I knew how to avoid the rays and still got stuck. The life guards at Belmont Shores are great, they will take good care of you. Just tell them Sting Ray John sent you. Belmont Shores is an excellent place to ...

Re: mast length

I learned on a short 76cm.(30") mast. It does have few advantages. The crashes from the top are not as bad, starting in on shore conditions is easier, and you can ride in shallower water. I had a great time foiling South Padre Island, Texas (bay side) that would not be possible with a longer mast. I...

Re: Need some advice on boards

Lots of kiting at Aurora reservoir, Colorado. We've been foiling there for several months and would be glad to help. We'll be there this Saturday, if it's not frozen! Foiled the Laguna Madre last week at South Padre Island. 30" is the magic number for maximum strut length. Any longer and it's too sh...
