Re: Making launch safer - learning from the experts

Kites rolling down the beach and beachgoers complaining is exactly what gets beach closed for kiting. Assuming the safety leash is attached, the kite will not be rolling down the beach, it will flag out. Again - no matter what launch technique is used - there is always going to be a risk that the k...

Thanks for sharing this Sylvain. The tip to hold center lines *above* the chicken loop is key.

Re: Making launch safer - learning from the experts

A friend of mine was hit by other guy's kite falling down "landing" from 3m height and kite ripped muscle on his arm off the bone.
This is a straw man. No matter what launch technique is used, loss of control can happen. You see this all the time with beginners at a crowded spot.

Re: Naish octopussy

I realize I'm in the minority on one-pump. When it works, it is indeed fantastic. But I just spent a couple of days of a vacation in November fixing leaky strut valves - a job which would have been much faster / easier without one-pump. It would be nice to have the option to order without onepump, b...

Re: Naish octopussy

I really wish Kite manufacturers would go back to the old style of per-strut inflate valves.

The small amount of time saved in pumping is just not worth the extra complexity and repair issues.

Re: Kite trip in Dominican Republic

I am not sure why everyone thinks Cabarete is crowded. Yes - kite beach is crowded - but there are miles and miles of kiting up and down the coast where you will not see another kiter all day long. La Boca is upwind of Cabarete - you can kite there from town center, or take a moto for 100 pesos or s...

Re: kelowna or okanagan a beginner to learn with

I grew up in Kelowna. In general it really sucks for wind. It is very rare you will get enough wind - and when it is windy it usually a short lived squall (very dangerous). The launches are not great either. Too many obstacles too close to the beach. I'd consider driving to another location. The Gor...

Re: Why you should avoid self launch when you can?

Fair enough , but that should give us incentive to share which kite brands sit nicely in the edge of the window. I've done this with Switch, EH, Liquid Force. I suspect the majority of newer designs will do this. The challenge with this mentality is it suggest you can tether launch all kites.... You...

Re: Why you should avoid self launch when you can?

With a tethered launch - never. You get to see that all the lines are clear before you ever let go of the kite. And If for some reason a line was wrapped, you are not attached to the kite. Might mess up your kite, but i'd far rather that than the alternative. never had a line tangled? around a tip? ...
