I seriously believe this is an issue with technique etc, especially picking stuff up off the beach ( like a board) when it is behind you and you twist way from the kite and down, effectively flipping the spreader hook upside down in respect to the force from the kite.

dude - try get hold of some old jump waterskis - they are long, relatively low rocker (as long as you got older) and are fairly wide. not so sure about those slingshot kites... have you tried making one yourself. It seems to work good for me. Although need a decent supplier of the thread.

No specific experience, however check out CTI as it looks like you are after a brace for good reason (ligament issues).
