Cork as skins/rails

Just a heads up to the DIY board builders, some surfboard builders have been having really good results using Cork (Corecork - http://www.corecork.amorim.com/ ) as deck skins and using it built up as rails. You can use it similar to how you'd use Corecell. It's good stuff, easy to work with and, esp...

Re: kevlar

Agree with the pain-in-ass statement. I've never used it but I've talked to guys who built surfboards with it and said it was not worth the hassle/price.

Just use s-glass and epoxy, or if you want to get fancy use woven uni-directionals or tri-ax cloth to adjust your torsional rigidity.

Re: Urethane rails?

gbleck, very cool, thanks for the feedback!
Got any pics?
How did the resin adhere to the urethane?

I snapped my homemade plywood board a few months ago, so I'm planning on building another one. I really want to try urethane rails on it, and there is very little info to be found.

Re: Urethane rails?

Re: one piece wood core vs. laminate wood core, why?

Quick answer is that plywood is cheap, easy and readily available.

Glueing up strips is much stronger and offers better flex, but is much more work and requires a lot of sanding or routing to get the finished profile.

Re: best way to print full board custom graphic

These guys do custom graphics for surfboards and I've seen some of their finished products and they look really good.

Looks like it would be around $50 for full art for one side.

Nice board! What product are you using from Smooth-on?

Looks like something like this would work for kiteboard rails/inserts:
