Re: Finally Teaching Wife

I understand what you're saying. A mistake I see many newbies commit is when it's not working out the way they want, they pull the bar in tight rather than letting it go, which may be the better choice in many circumstances. It's more natural to Hold On Tight.

Re: Finally Teaching Wife

You guys are right. I'll take it to heart. By the way, I'm not emphasizing not crashing the kite in order to protect the kite, but in order to keep kiting. It's soooo much easier to keep it flying than it is to get it flying. These days, though, the kites are a lot more forgiving than when I was lea...

Yep, that's going to leave a mark. I think I'll swap that puppy out. Never thought about it grabbing a line.

No, but similar. Mine is tear-drop shaped. What kind of problems do these cause, other than grabbing your thumb?

Re: The most ridiculous kiting injury you've had or heard of

Board to back of head - Placed four fingers of right hand onto back of skull - all the way to bone. Had to kite back, then drive to ER. 1st and only day in fresh water. Got on plane to left, carved up into wind, nose of board went under, I looked down to see what happened and sent the kite right by ...

Re: Finally Teaching Wife

Regarding gear: Good points above, but I believe you can protect your gear too. The 8m Gaastra is perfect for beach training, because it flies well and is almost bullet-proof, but not so for water training. It doesn't re-launch like a new kite. For that, we'll go to my 2009 9m so that it will re-lau...

Re: What Limits our Planning Speed compared to Windsurf ???

the kitesurf craze will die out soon and windsurfing will be the cool thing to do for under 40s again, What did you drink or smooke this morning ? Really. WS gear is too bulky, expensive, and conditions are too finicky. Progression is very slow and peaks out too early. KS is portable, fl...

PCB Kite Shop Blew up

2 weeks ago, my wife were on the dinghy in Grand Lagoon, Panama City Beach Fl, and we heard a HUGE explosion. Turns out that the dive shop in the same building as Emerald Coast Kiteboarding blew up when a nitrogen tank gave out. rushmarkrush, a member here, and Wayne were in the shop and were knocke...

Re: Finally Teaching Wife

Hampton, you may have changed your life forever. Now that I've taught my wife to kite, she's as bad as I am now, every time the wind starts I get a phone call, 'lets go'. Nothing at home gets done now and my kiting bill has doubled, man, lifes good. One piece of advise, have patience and be gentle....
