Re: Packing up a foil kite with wet bar

I used to do the same as Janus, once folded in 1/3’s the kite goes into the bag, the bar gets washed under a tap and the strapped to the outside of the bag to dry. Now with a carbon bar I can forget the bar wash bit.

Re: Fly surfer soul wind range

It’s a Pansh Aurora 2, flys well. My race foil takes me a fair way off shore so relaunch is critical. Just seems from the chat that the Soul is the kite that has the best chance of relaunch in iffy conditions due to better sealing and higher internal pressure. The Aurora works fine, but the bridle i...

Re: Fly surfer soul wind range

Tossing up between the 10 or the 12 Soul. I’m 80 kg riding a surf or a race wing depending on conditions and tide. I want to get foiling in 7-8 knots with a kite that will relaunch relatively easily if I drop it. It will replace a Pansh Aurora 12 which is ok but old school re wind range and slow. Wh...

Re: Do I really need a hot coat?

When using old school polyester resins building surfboards the hot coat you refer to is called a filler coat. This was resin with wax added to make sanding the board possible. The unwaxed laminating resin is virtually unsandable, just balls up if you try but it sticks to the foam well. A thin layer ...

Re: Strutless Kite Modifying

I've just single strutted an Ozone Reo 7 mtr. Very easy with Ozones as they sew the canopy before fitting the struts. Most other brands just glue the seam under the strut attachment then sew on the strut meaning you have to sew the canopy after removing the strut. A bit of silastic in the old strut ...

Re: Oceanus kite reels: i still see them

Just bought one of these things, first use today with my foil board, brilliant. Clipped onto a ring on the front strap while relaunching, board stayed with me, not drifting off. Once the kite was up, un clipped and off riding again. Too easy.

Re: bridle line types: Ozone -Flysurfer

I don't have proof but I would guess the thinner bridle lines have less shrinkage over time than the thicker lines, and if they did shrink would tend to stretch back to nominal setting during use. This would mean a flysurfer would maintain its tune better than an ozone.

Re: Corroded Zip!!??

Flysurfer went through a stage of fitting alloy slider on their zips, my Speed 2 had one. After it started corroding I removed it and replaced the entire zip with one that has a plastic slider. Easy job with a domestic sewing machine and some polyester thread. Generally, a corroded alloy slider can ...

Re: Flysurfer Soul

So for light wind foiling, 8-10 knots, what are people's preference, the 12 or the 15 Soul? I'm 80 kg (176 lbs) using both surf and race wings.

Re: Tube vs Softkite - an epic battle?

Same with me TomW, I bought a race foil and the flapping of the single strut kites was a pain, and worse limited the top speed of a fast foil. I have since bought an Ozone Edge as an experiment, not as much flapping and a higher speed but as you go through 40kph it is noticeable. I'm with you, the f...
