Kiters helping with Gulf oil spill

With the Gulf Coast threatened by the BP oil spill environmental disaster, there have been non-profits as well as concerned citizens who are applying their expertise in monitoring and mitigating this catastrophe. We found a very cool site where students launch high-altitude balloons as well as towed...

HQ 2010 Neo II

The NEO series by HQ is a closed cell ram-air foil. HQ refers to it as a "crossover kite," meaning it can be used on land as well as water year around. The NEO II is a modest upgrade from the NEO. They reduced the air intake ports on the leading edge from 6 to 4, but the ports are larger in size on ...

Re: My new favorite haness for snowkiting and landboarding

I have and have tried other harnesses, but I'm just sharing my experience. You loop your chickenloop through the D-ring and resecure it. When you're bouncing around on the slope or ground, or if the lines go slack during a maneuver, the harness stays attached, but if you pull the release on the chic...

Re: I got the itch... I'm growing a beard

I wish I could grow a good beard...but a month of not shaving for me results in growth that looks more like random chain of islands on my face with a few lone hairs swimming for shore...perhaps "scragle-beard" might come into fashion....although the ladies do like the baby-face ;)

My new favorite haness for snowkiting and landboarding

Well it's fall time and the leaves are turning - Lake Michigan is cold! So I've turned to landboarding until the snow comes. I'm using a harness made by Ozone that I like a lot. It not only secures you at the waist, but also around each leg - sort of like a climbing harness. The effect is that it wo...

Frame powerkite for kiteboarding?

I've recently flown a HUGE frame powerkite called "The Arbitrator." I've been thinking about rigging it for 4-lines, perhaps stacking 2 or 3 of them, and trying it out as a traction kite or a kite to use with my ATB (All Terrain Board). Has anyone tried this? http://www.thirdcoastkites.com http://d....

Re: Tried the 2010 Neo 11...waiting for an Access XT

can you compare the new HQ NEO II with the old one ? what has been improved ? does it have better low end? where did you get the new neo2 ? It's a NEO 11m (11 meters/sq of surface area). The NEO series has very good light-wind performance. It comes in a 6m, 8m, 11m, and 14m size, but the 11m is con...

Tried the 2010 Neo 11...waiting for an Access XT

Tried out the new NEO 11 over the past couple weeks...it's a real nice kite. I've had it on the water, at the airport, and out in a hay field (a bit dirty)...but I'm steady looking at the weather and looking at the trees waiting for them to show sign of wind so I can get out. I was boarding on my AT...

I'm on OR Rises but have an 11m Neo for landboarding, etc... strong kite but find something else for the water.
It has good light-wind performance, but I'm looking to get the 2010 North EVO too for good comparison.

New Neo 11

Just got the new NEO 11! I'm siked! Personally, I like the ram-air foil design because I like being able to fly the same kite on water or land, winter or summer. I know it's summer, but I can't wait to try it out this winter. Forget about lift-tickets and chair-lifts! Any one else fly ram-air foils?...
