Re: 20 Years of Kiting!

Had my 19th anniversary last week. Yep, I started on the 2 line Wipika, no instructions but had seen a half page in a windsurf magazine about needing to sine the kite...! Got dragged and Beaten up on it and a 7’6’’ surfboard with glassed on straps for a year before I could return to my start point. ...

Re: Could someone please invent a better way to self land a kite in high wind.

I tether launch and land 75% of the time, even when there’s others around. Only if someone I know and trust is close do I grab an assist. I do it whatever the wind strength. Depower the kite fully before launch, gives u a chance to check everything’s ok with the kite before you clip in. Seen lots of...

Re: I give in

Thanks guys for the input, so generally people are advising surfier, bigger foils, carbon for lightness, lower volume small boards to help waterstarts.

Stick to my kites whilst learning in high teens mph. Then I might get a 10m strutless/solo strut kite for lighter winds.

Cheers

I give in

Been resisting foiling but am going to commit. Kiting 20 yrs last 10 solely strapless SB to good standard, only use 8/6m airush wave kites from 18mph up if there’s waves. So only want to foil strapless and buy 1 more kite for 10/18 mph mellow foiling. What board, what foil and what kite? All help ap...

Re: Barless

Why not try it with the two handles like the old blade riders did in late 90’s/early 00’s?

Re: surfboard vs directional kite board

1, turn kite 2, turn head look where you want to go 3, carve using head, shoulders, hips, knees 4, when uv turned about 150 degrees, do slight upstroke to 10 ish 5, swap feet whilst weight is carried by kite upstroke. 6, if ur really powered then 4, becomes less important. 7, lose the straps, totall...

Re: Any self taught out there?!

Yep self taught, started September 1999. 2 line Wipika, 7’6” surfboard I glassed straps to. I read half page article in a windsurf mag (was a windsurfer before) about something to do with sine-ing the kite. Took me a year to learn to get up, ride and return to same place. Used same kite no matter th...

Re: Airush wave kite hindenburg

Been riding Waves for 4 yrs, if that’s happened to you it’s definitely back lines too short/ shrinkage. Check ur lines as the Wave flys brilliantly with correct lines.

I have one of the original hand made ones from Coleman who created Engine, since 2013. Never had my PU spreader hoop come loose ever.

Re: Modern wave kite

Sonnyrider, That's correct, I did but couldn't get on with them. Personally found them heavier feeling and slower/less nimble in the turn. So kicked myself and went back to Waves, but instead of 9/7/5 I went 8/6 which is working great. I don't bother now unless it's 20+mph with waves so it's now an ...
