Re: What wood for mast core?

I use bamboo. It is harder stronger and heavier than the soft woods. But it also doesn't easily break or if exposed to water for a while won't get waterlogged.

My bamboo/carbon mast/fuse/wings weighs in at 3kg.

Re: how long is too long?!

I'm not sold on longer lines unless you need to get above a wind shadow. The extra line drag typically negates the extra power you might get.

How did I miss this thread? Let's face it. Both brands are awesome. You cant go wrong with either. Each brand has slightly different specs and feel which make them feel slightly different. Pick the brand which I'd s best supported at your location or can get the best price on or which one you enjoy ...

Re: Hydrofoil DIY from Argentina

Solid build. I like the side bolt through mast/fuse. Cunning. Think about countersinging your bolts on the top plate. Then you wont piss your feet off when moving around the board. Only thing i dont agree with is the rear wind on the bottom. That means all the force of the water is trying to rear th...

Re: On-shore vs Off-shore wave kite

Not sure of exact angles. There comes a point of offshore wind angle where a wave kite is no longer better at wave riding than a mid aspect or high aspect kite because it has reached its upwind limit and can't easily stay on the face any more. That said, the board has the biggest impact on upwind an...

Re: Offshore Wind

The more offshore it is the the more you need to point upwind just to stay on the wave face and get close to the pocket. Theres a point where all you can do is churn up wind and bearly stay on the face. Look at cross off winds. There's a perfect cross off angle where it is still possible to get onto...

Re: Board features for hot landings

Rocker, tip flex and length help the most. Short board can nose in and also dont have enough length to absorb the impact. i recon a board in the 140+cm length with high rocker 45cm+ and nice flexible tips will be the best for hard impact landings. Of course the more rocker you design in the less eff...
