Re: Wood Cores

Carbon can be wonderful stuff but throwing it at the wrong part of a build will make the board stiff, brittle and expensive. My own experience in landing hard ski's as a yoot and decks later on has not been rewarding so light weight and incorporating flex is pretty important which is where wood is s...

Re: Advice on OBX

Later into May and yes, you're insect bait. But at that time of year it's not so bad. Keep an eye on the rainfall. As for the park at Ocracoke, we've always had better luck up on the ocean side dune face. Get farther back towards the creek or even in the middle right after rain and you're toast. Scr...

Re: Advice on OBX

Buxton. The Inn on Pamlico sound is linked on Ty Luckett's site. A short drive from there gets anyone not interested in kiting to fishing, shopping, beaches, site seeing and food. A short walk - down to the pier? - gets you to kiting. I've not stayed there but visited a while ago - looked okay but w...

Re: Skiing waves in Hawaii

Trick/freestyle skiing - land or water - still seems to be best accomplished on two skis. Speed on land seems to be had on two skis, not sure how well speed snow boards are catching up. On the other hand a towed slalom ski on the water is hands down faster and more controllable at speed. The number ...

Re: Skiing waves in Hawaii

"it does look funny, but i see no future in it." Just curious, Do you get towed into a break by a horse onshore pulling a barge of a board or do you jet ski/kite in on a custom deck? Got to admit, hard to resist a low hanging curve ball like that. I prefer free-riding all types of boards and slalom...

Re: Downwind Faster Than The Wind - update

Spork, awaiting the outcome of your scaled up demonstrator but as of now this thing puts me in mind of some aspects of Hydraulic Ram Pumps (HRP's). If I gronk this right, what you're doing is converting greater o/a wind impetus on the prop into lesser though possibly more efficiently employed torque...

Re: Chambered Balsa Core Surfboard UK

If by chambered you mean a hollow core surfboard with balsa vertical sections sandwiched between outer skins akin to model airplane wing construction, then why not score modeling balsa? Large scale sections of end-grain balsa core prepared for layup in yacht building applications can be expensive an...

Re: New Brand: Epic Kites

Hello Dimitri, after seeing all the pics in this thread, couple questions: You came home to the Banks just in time for the storm? Cold, trending colder and nasty! A little closer to this thread and relevant to the above: Are you going to set up a time to fly the new kites in the Banks during Decembe...

Re: Hatteras Island

nature is striking back...Hatteras will be gone one day...same like Maldives! Nah, it'll just be a little more westerly with the restoration of some nice breaks around the inlets. After spending time over the years up and down the Banks, we finally settled up in Kitty Hawk and had a good time in th...
