Re: Drift launch - running out lines

On the subject of Drift Launching a kite, in 2006, during the hay-day of "C" kites, the "Drift-Fly" technique was described in the thread: https://kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2328471 I found the "Drift Fly" technique to be the most successful way to deal with: (2) snags from debris, seaweed an...

Re: Drift launch - running out lines

https://kiteforum.com/search.php?keywords=reelbar do a search for 'reelbar' 3 iterations of such a bar have been made...they were too heavy, they jammed, one had two actual bars, one had a bicycle disk brake....no survivors, just a few kitemares to tell the grandchildren, as they ask: "Why did you h...

Re: Drift launch - running out lines

"....Drift launching is a relatively safe way to launch...." Vs:  "...These kites don't just sit and drift nicely until the lines are tensioned. The fails end up with some horrendous tangle of lines, and uncertainty on the safety working...." Plus" "...Having had my lines snag on submerged rocks and...

Re: Drift launch - running out lines

Here is a pdf of a device I tinkered up and used successfully to drift launch from a rocky point. The lines are separated and roll off the "drum" as the kite drifts out, and at the last seconds, the bar comes out of the blue foam pad wrap. The back lines are left longer than the front lines. I stand...

Re: Knife - what to you think?

The fear I would have with any "jack knife" is that the spring mechanism that holds the knife blade both shut and then open would be quickly corroded and expose the kiter to the danger of a sharp blade unexpectedly swinging out ... or once the blade has swung out, that the blade would not hold in s ...

Re: Hook Knives...don't bet your life on them!

The following new thread starts out with a discussion about a "jack knife" as a kite knife. The fear I would have with any "jack knife" is that the spring mechanism that holds the knife blade both shut and then open would be quickly corroded and expose the kiter to the danger of a sharp blade unexpe...

Re: My elbows hurt like hell :(

It may be time to reconsider the feasibility of the "below the bar recoil type of device", which I described in the Feb 11, 2012 thread: http//www.kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2374480 Here are some pictures of the device, ( spring leash safety disconnect.JPG unconnected leash .JPG connected lea...

Re: Chicken Loop Bye Bye?

Finished the V1 version today, I'm about 80% happy with it - see how it goes next windy day. IMG_20160919_190915.jpg For safety reasons, consider putting the black Poly tube back on the line for the Mushroom to slide on. The 2 to 3 inch tubing should be placed between the mushroom and the red ball ...
