Re: Snowkite expedition Sweden-Finland on sea ice

Last year was good. This year is much worse. Quite warm weather. Well, north Sweden had -40 centigrades in December. Then there were a couple of weeks in January with temperatures down to -40 in the north. The north Baltic Sea got some of that cold, so there is ice, even though it is less than norma...

Snowkite expedition Sweden-Finland on sea ice

Hi.
A friend and I intend to follow in the tracks of the old ice hunters and make an expedition on the north Baltic Sea in March. Our goal is to travel by kite from Sweden to Finland. If all goes well, we'll post some pictures during the trip: http://www.kiteonice.com

Re: Best kite for long expeditions?

Hugo: Very interesting to read about your experiences and the good equipment recommendations. Regarding the "record"; yes, after I posted the reply, I realized that the "record" is nothing. The other link I referred to is where Ronny Finsås kited more than 500 km in less than 24 hours, which is way ...

Re: Lack of Snow?

Until yesterday we did not have much snow in Stockholm, only cold weather, so I have been stuck with icebuggying the last weekends (not that I complain...). But yesterday we got a good amount of snow - time to switch from icekiting to snowkiting.

Re: Best kite for long expeditions?

Hi, My current combo for tour kiting is Access 6m for hard wind, Manta 10m for medium wind and Yakuza 14m for light wind. Here the Yakuza 14m: http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5288/5252174627_83751e801a_m.jpg http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5281/5252209921_9e4082a462_m.jpg The classic tool for polar cr...

Re: Kite buggy on frozen sea

Now I have tried Yakuza 7m with the icebuggy. It is definitely better than my depower kites for high speed kiting. It pulls a lot at high speed - also upwards, which I noticed yesterday. I also noticed that even though my ice blades are high, they do not break through all snow walls. http://www.yout...

Re: Ultra Short Lines Wings

Is this a new version of the good old ski sail (pic below) that has been used since the 1990's for crossing Antarctica etc?
