Re: Foil Kites Banned for Racing in 2015?

And I quote Steph Bridge- "The genie is out of the bottle". Well, that pretty much says it all. It's a sport dedicated to racing, right?! The expense of buying a new quiver of foil kites may put some riders out of the race for a time , but this will not last. The race scene will rebound. Everyone wa...

Re: My foil from dreams to part in hand as i go

And that's what I love about this forum, posts like this. The home build projects that hold back no secrets by people with some skills trying to figure it out. I'm a bit of a builder and business owner in another field.

I'm pretty sure there's a future in sailing foils.

Re: Snow Kite Flying - Too Dangerous or Safe Enough?

"Kites can handle more gusty wind and fly further than a speed wing"- Of course, it's gotta be the right kite but that's good to know. I always figured kites could handle turbulent wind better but not had the chance to compare back to back.

Thanks

Re: Snow Kite Flying - Too Dangerous or Safe Enough?

It's a good question, how safe is gliding? I've done a paragliding beginner course and have 20 flights under my belt. Just enough to know I don't know much (eg. XC flying). I had a great experience and will go forward with it, but it's not kiting. Limited wind range and no quick release are stand ou...

Re: side-onshore wind

Personally, I always try to play without having to pay. Looping the kite is definitely a part of wave riding in those conditions. It's about kite positioning. Sometimes a quick pivotal loop is what you want, and sometimes a long drawn out loop with more pull is what you need. Looping the kite while ...

Re: side-onshore wind

Good question, but I'll answer it a little different to the way you've asked it. Basically, in side onshore wave riding you will find it a lot easier to ride the waves on an upwind tack (kite parked toward beach). This will keep power in the kite making it less likely to fall. To avoid being pulled ...

Re: Best Old school Kites?

I had a great session on the 2012/13 Ocean Rodeo Prodigy 14m in a steady 15-20 knots. It's a 3 strut, delta shape. Not sure if it was just the wind that day or what, but pulling down on the bar during decent just gave me another up. Anyway, it has the best hang time of any LEI I've used so far (and ...

Yo Dimitri, I met you on Union Island this winter. Cool spot, eh?! So when's that next video of yours coming out?! I scrolled thru the last 5 pages of posts and didn't see it. Don't tell me you're slacking off ............I'm sure it'll be epic. Cheers, Gavin P.S. The guys spray painting people's pr...

Re: Honeymoon help

Mr. Honeymoon, I've been kiting and travelling quite a while. Places I'd suggest are: 1. St. Kitts and Nevis- few kiters, trade winds and mountains with great hiking and bird watching. 2. A trip to Barbados (1 week, swell depending) then St. Vincent and the Grenadines ending at Union Island. Barbado...
