Re: Weight - Weight - Weight

Weight definitely matters. I made an online calculator where you can input your weight and the windspeed and it will recommend kite and board sizes, although currently the board sizes calcs are just for twintips. http://jimbodouglass.blogspot.com/2011/01/interactive-kiteboarding-calculator.html The ...

Re: Upwind Board

It's not just skill. Board size and kite size make a huge difference, and the 138 x 40 is way too small for you unless you're super powered up. Check out my board size calculator... http://jimbodouglass.blogspot.com/2011/01/interactive-kiteboarding-calculator.html Something like 153 x 45 would be a ...

Re: An inexpensive wave twin tip for a big guy

A surprisingly good "wave" twintip was the litewave freeride 179. Lots of concave, moderate amount of flex and taper towards the tips. Very "carvy" feeling, comfortable in chop, coasts through lulls, doesn't spray you in the face, etc. I'm riding it in this video... http://jimbodouglass.blogspot.com...

Re: Quitting Kiting

Ouch! Hope your leg heals well. I think the theme here is that all kiting is somewhat dangerous, but the danger can be greatly reduced by: 1. Kiting on the water where the wind is steadier AND the impacts are softer than on land. 2. Kiting conservatively with respect to the conditions and your gear ...

Re: High boosting kites

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the flysurfer Speed 2 and Speed 3 foil kites. I definitely went higher, further, longer on my Speed 2 than on any inflatable I ever tried. The flysurfer was kind of a p.i.t.a. for other reasons, but it really did jump way bigger than anything else, at least for my ...

Re: Which GoPro?

Get the HD version, definitely.

As for attachments, the helmet strap works pretty well for strapping it to a kite strut, and the sticky mounts are good for board and helmet top attachments. Always put a float and a leash on the camera because they will bust loose sometimes.

Re: GoPro editing software

I use iMovie for mac and that seems to be really easy and good enough to do pretty much everything I want. When I had a PC I used windows movie maker, which was also easy but had some problems with the file format that came off the GoPro. No problems like that on the mac. The image stabilization fea...

Re: Kite Size / Board Size Calculator

Thanks for the comments. Ya, I almost wasn't even going to try a board size calculator since it's such a subjective thing and it's unclear how the dimensions should scale with body weight, but I went ahead and did it. Basically, I started with what I would ride at my 160 lbs weight and then made the...

Re: Beginner Gear?

Warren- I'm selling a 2008 12 m Flysurfer Speed 2 for $750 that you could use as a snowkite. NO bladders to inflate, works on water too. Also selling a big 179 cm twintip, medium 137 cm twintip, and a directional raceboard because I'm going back to just windsurfing. The stuff is listed on my blog. I...
