I just ordered some Atan boots for the same purpose. I have read good things about them and hopefully they will have the barefoot feeling as advertised.
I was thinking about getting a strapless surfboard to get the hang of tacking. Noticed in your picture you're riding a mako king. After practicing a lot of tacking the race board, I tried it on my strapless Mako King, and it was super easy. (tacking with back to the wind). The fins on the Mako King...
Great thread. I am learning on an Aguera CR59 same way as you discojuggernaut - gradually working to backfoot to the strap and then strap to the rail. I have learned I need to keep momentum in my jibes otherwise I go over. I was thinking about getting a strapless surfboard to get the hang of tacking.
Is that setup with a FDS or FLS? It looks like the 5th line has a stopper which limits the travel of the line through the bar. Does that affect the safety?
For what it's worth, my main kite for the Bay Area is a 12m but at that time of year sometimes the winds are higher and I use my 9m instead. I weigh 190lbs (86kg) and only ride at 3rd Avenue or Alameda on a twin tip. If there's any way that you can bring 2 kites, I'd recommend it. In April and May ...
I know Slingshot has done some weird size stuff in the past. My first inflatable kite was a 2002 Slingshot Fuel OneSixty. The guy selling it to me said "It is more like a 17M." Which meant nothing to me. It was friggin huge! The projected area number has been useful for figuring out the difference ...

I now have a kitehero fin mount that works great for a board POV. I put a strip of paper towel in the ca...
+1 Ocean Rodeo Rise 12M. I have had the most sessions on that kite. I like the long throw bar setup to deal with gusts and when overpowered. Moves fast enough for a 12. Smooth power through carving turns. Easy to jump with good hang time. Solid construction.
Only thing im a loser for is wasting a weekend of stellar snowkiting fucking with the pile of shit. ive finally sussed you out mate. you took a kite youve never flown before on a snowkiting trip and wasnt able to fly the kite properly. +1 for a poor craftsman blames his tools. That must have been a...
