Re: Fly surfer soul wind range

It is possible to do a 2 kite quiver and cover most of the wind range, especially if you hydrofoil and don’t need the larger sizes. However, I think a 3 kite quiver is more realistic. If you have to cover both ends of the wind range a 4 or 5 kite quiver makes sense. The Soul is the best kite I have ...

Re: Maui in winter - a lot of rain right?

Yup, you will get rained on every year on the north shore during the winter. It is a real crap shoot, you might get only a little rain or a 10 day downpour. There is a reason that all of the hotels and condos are located in Kihei/Wailea & Lahaina - they get so much less rain. My dad lives on Maui, s...

Re: Officially announced: North becomes Duotone

It does not take very long to do a trademark search. A lot rides on a brand name. The name “Best” was a great name. Do an interet search on the best kite to buy and up pops “Best”. It is too bad that name has been sullied in so many ways, but the original name was excellent. “North” is much more tha...

Re: Officially announced: North becomes Duotone

ever tried to secure a name?
Yes, I own a company and I have had to secure several trademarks. It can be an expensive and an involved process, but a strong brand is valuable. If the value was just in the models, North Sails would not be making this play.

Re: Officially announced: North becomes Duotone

I say shame on B&M for two reasons: 1. Not securing the North Kites brand, so this type of debacle could never happen. 2. Settling on the name Duotone because they already owned the name. Just because you own the name, it does not make it a good one. That being said, I hope they do succeed. It is to...

Re: Flysurfer Soul

I took a 10m & 6m Soul to Maui last week. The wind was typical for Maui in the summer, 20 to 25 knots gusting to 30 most days. I found the 10 was the perfect kite every day. There was a day when I tried the 6, but went back to the 10 for the lofty airs. The best part about the Soul was even when the...

Advice from an older married kiter to a young one

I have been kiting for 18 years and I have learned a few things along the way that may help younger kiters in a serious relationship or married. 1. You don't need to teach your wife to kite. In fact, it may be better if she never learns. Let her do her thing and you do yours. Kiting takes serious pa...

Re: Tube vs Softkite - an epic battle?

“Tube vs Softkites - Epic Battle” Sound like trolling to me. Really, who cares what kite you use, there is no right or wrong choice. It is not even worth arguing about. How about more threads on what kites are at suited for certain conditions or how to ride a dang hydrofoil without crashing a zillio...

Re: FS Speed5 - not getting on with it

Once you have checked the bridles and lines to make sure everything is trimmed properly, wait for a windy day. Take the 12 out in 20 knots+ and send it. You will be surprised by the magical landings of your foil kite. Frankly, you are no small fry and you have no business going out with a kite that ...

Re: Jumping=new love of my life!

Thank you for the hydrofoil recommendation. Any recommendation on board. I am an old guy (51), for me it is all about big air, the board needs to be light and stiff. I am not worried about spending for quality.
