Re: HURRICANE FLORENCE and Dimitri Maramenides

The best part of this vid is that he has an entire fan full of multiple kites, boards, bars, and No PUMP! 😂

Re: Foilers vs Kiters proportion now

Foilfun, you and your lady friend are taking away all of our excuses not to foil. First of all, learning to foil is not easy, but tandem foil!!! :o And tandem foil jumping :thumb: I have a foil, will practice! On another note, there is a big contingent of foilers on Maui. Some are out on the water a...

Re: 20 Years of Kiting!

I had more than one bruised purple wrist due to the wrist leash. Snap Shackles were even more dangerous, the only fatality that occurred at my local launch was when one of our local riders could not release his shackle when a microburst passed by. Rick, I don’t remember if I bought the 16.9 Wipika A...

Re: 20 Years of Kiting!

Congratulations to Rick, Paul, Peter, and others that have lived to tell the stories of early days kiting. The early gear was dangerous and the learning curve was high. 2 line kites have been mentioned, but don’t forget fixed chicken loops, wrist leashes (there is nothing better than getting dragged...

Re: The Perfect Kite Event - how would it look like?

The perfect event is an empty beach, no other riders, no other people, smooth wind at 15 to 20 knots. Just me and the seagulls.

Oh, yeah, that is my typical kite session. :thumb:

Re: My first sessions with the Flysurfer Soul 12, a short video

It performs really well Downunder. I have a 10m and my 13 year old son flies with it, deep water and low wind (on and off and max 12 kts), small inland lake.. i was waiting for strange behaviour of the foil in hands of a young and new to "big" foil kites kiter... yes it dropped and did strange thin...

Re: Switching from Flysurfer to Lei

Self landing is dangerous in high winds whether you are flying an LEI or a foil kite. We had a very experienced kiter get busted up the other day when self landing a 9m LEI. He was dragged across the beach with the kite doing a death loop after his hand got fouled in the chicken loop trying to relea...

Re: Switching from Flysurfer to Lei

I personally am abandoning my LEI's for the new Flysurfer Soul. However, if I were going the other direction, my top picks would be FS Boost 3 or Core XR5. I drop my foil in the water right at the edge of the beach when the landing is dicy and then get it off the water ASAP. Works good for me, but I...

Re: Why do I need a much bigger board AND bigger kite for a heavier rider?

You guys are overthinking it. I used to try to measure the wind speed and compare it to wind meter strength. I would waste time on the beach trying to figure out what size of kite to put up. I would query other riders and try to think my way to the bes5 kite size. I had a friend who taught me to obs...

Re: Is a Flysurfer Soul 18m too much for hydrofoil in light wind?

I appreciate this thread as I am learning to hydrofoil. I Started out in 5 knots with the 21. I was powered, but getting rides. The wind picked up to 8 knots and it was tough not to go way too fast or keep the nose down. Next time, I will try the 15. Thanks for this thread.
