Re: Cabrinha IDS malfunction

the kite flipped upsides down and relaunched flying straight above my head upside down Now what to do since I on a small landing area with a powered kite flying upside down and the safety already activated. It is not really a "malfunction" as the kite isnt really powered. The way I read it is that ...

Re: slowing down when kiteboarding?

I had the same problem. If you get too much speed and feel you are starting to lose control, stand up a bit and bear off down wind. This gives you more control and less pull from kite and you can gradually edge back upwind again. In choppy conditions, release your edge a bit (standing up) on top of ...

Re: The Olympics..... not what they used to be....

Here in Norway, the Olympics are great. It is the one chance for everbody outside the big popular sports to get a bit of fame (and maybe even a bit of sponsor money). Most of the time, only a handful of sports get coverage in the media. During the Olympics, everybody with half a chance of a medal wi...

Re: beginner death in france, detailed by the teacher.

I dont agree with this, if you (as it seems) say this should be "normal" practice for all kite schools :o Having another pair of students sharing one kite more, close by, usually those that got the hang of it the fastest during the course (or it could also be the second day of a course) - is IMO no...

Re: beginner death in france, detailed by the teacher.

If there is now an assertion that a student should have any direct influence on the instructor's decisions with respect to elevating life threatening risks to himself...well, we have entered the theatre of the absurd. The responsibilities for these decisions rests with the instructor. PERIOD. Agree...

Re: beginner death in france, detailed by the teacher.

Interesting post Richard! Bitt makes a very interesting point which I had not considered. Specifically, IF the CLIENT PREFERS to accept MORE UNNECESSARY RISK because he THINKS it gives him MORE Value, is it responsible for an instructor to accommodate this desire ? No. If you think that one hour one...

Re: beginner death in france, detailed by the teacher.

Your math only makes sense assuming the group-course runs 4 times longer than the 1on1-course. Otherwise you'll have to choose between: a) 1 hour with instructor (one-on-one) b) 1 hour with instructor (shared with 3 other students) even assuming that group-courses are usually half as expansive or t...

Re: beginner death in france, detailed by the teacher.

I'm not sure if I agree that having 4 students is a bad thing. *Hits the floor waiting for the flames* Of course, there are good reasons not to have 4 students because it increases the chance that two (or more) students get into trouble at the same time. However, we also need to reflect on what happ...
