Re: Shifty winds in Essaouirra

It's been well over 20yrs, and I'd love to go back. We used to ride more south towards Diabat. Cleaner winds, better waves and more angle. Although Moulay can be a bit overcrowded and mostly a windsurf spot, there is a long stretch of beach a few kms north, we parked the rental Fiat Uno on the side ...

Re: 20m LEI Kites - Its Time

In my personal opinion if the wind is below 15 knots go outside elsewhere! (...) If anyone is really looking to advance on those off days / maybe not so strong days I recommend getting a workout in. (...) I'm sure those suggestions will go super well with the main contributors in that post  :...

Re: 20m LEI Kites - Its Time

Riding back and forth with no tricks is typically what happens when you struggle to go upwind. Can't build enough upwind capital to bw able to spend it in jumps. The big LEI kites of yesteryear were suffering from having a LOT of grunt. Lots of pull for sure, but lots of drag that kept them quite de...

Re: 20m LEI Kites - Its Time

The only way you can get a batch of 23m kites made is go direct. There may only be 3 factories in China that make LEI kites. Get on alibaba and find the water kites and see if they will do a batch of 5 or 10. Keep yours and sell off the rest. All the kite companies are struggling and none are going...

Re: Gear choice advice for novice

You had different opinions there. But my advice would be to just stick to the 850 for now. The 1200 will lift too much too early and will not let you control that lift easily. Keep it for later if you really want to extend the low end in marginal conditions or use really small kites, once you're pro...

Re: Gear choice advice for novice

Ok, I’m going against the flow, for your first outings go with the 850 wing, you really don’t want to fly in the first sessions, just get used to the board with the foil attached. Starting with the 1200 will be like riding a bucking bronco, it will fly well before your ready for it but after a few ...

Re: Why is wingfoiling so popular?

Get close to big ships is not an issue as soon as you keep them downwind of you (and some distance, of course). Even with wing would not be safe to get close if they're in displacement For sure, you have to stay well away from commercial vessels in a shipping lane. We do have a cruise ships termina...

Re: Why is wingfoiling so popular?

After that, I will see. But not really sure, as I don't have waves here As long as you have a bit of fetch even 12 knots of wind will give you little bumps you can play with. For me that's really my only focus when winging, riding the waves, no matter how small. go around Quail Island, see historic...

Re: Why is wingfoiling so popular?

Even mowing the lawn can be made fun. Wingfoiling is a great tool to explore your spot. Sure kitefoiling typically goes upwind faster and steeper, covers more ground, but then you can't have a wee rest in a sheltered bay, you can't get too close from things, can't stop and take pictures of your mate...

Re: Why is wingfoiling so popular?

Like in any foiling it’s crucial to keep vector of rider weight/pressure applied perpendicular to the board - in same plane as the mast. Twisting the board backwards and falling towards the wing is no fun. Yes, it's just that those vectors seem to be much "simpler" to align in wingfoil than in kite...
