Re: 3D Printed Wings - please post your experiences here

CNC machining seems to me the way to go, rather than 3D printing. Start with some material, and cut away what you don't need to make either a mold or directly create your wing. To machine it directly, get some G10 fiberglass. I use my CNC machine to cut molds, then make them from carbon. Most 3D pri...

Re: Hydrofoil Videos

Good to see you are enjoying the waves, and proceeding in small steps, very rewarding :D One thing though, have you thought about cutting 40-50 cm off the nose, as I really think it will make it a lot snappier in turns and easier to handle, and work just as well or better in every other aspect. Re: Adding washout?

Homemade AoA -meter :) I use that method, too. I learned it on Youtube. Great resource. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTCyag5N_vE I just designed a new foil with 1% washout, and cut the molds. If I want, I can add more by twisting the mold. LowAspectFoilWashout2.jpg LowAspectFoilWashout.jpg

Re: Adding washout?

Washout on a swept wing makes a wing more pitch stable. But it also gives you more drag at low AOA, so for going really fast (racewings t.ex) washout is not really used. Otherwise at higher AOA it can give you the benefit of being more stable and I would think it does not crash as much if close to ...

Yes, AlpineFoil frontwing,XLP2, washout about 3 degrees.
OK, thanks. Did you measure this yourself, or did you find the information somewhere?

Adding washout?

I have been thinking of adding some washout to my main wings.

Has anyone done any experimenting to see if this makes a more stable wing? Do production hydrofoils have washout?
