Re: What is considered to be a big or small Board size for hydrofoiling

People have noted that my Waltzing Bear is very big for a kitefoil board, but I found it very helpful to have something that big and floaty. It was easy to handle on the water before waterstarting. Unlike the Cabrina I borrowed a couple of times, which was as thin as most twintip boards, it was real...

Re: Cutting a new mold for a foil

I have used PVA. The problem with PVA is its hard to fix mistakes. Any runny spots, or a bubble, or a piece of dust that lands on it is there for good. I like waxes because I can buff out any mistakes. For sure, a polished wax surface will give a slightly better finish, depending on how nicely you ...

Re: Cutting a new mold for a foil

A good mould release schedule on a gel coat mould would be 6 layers of carnuba wax (wax on/wax off) and then a layer of pva release agent. On HDPA you may need less layers of wax. The pva forms a thin sacrificial skin which dissolves with water when you remove the cured piece - highly recommended i...

Re: Cutting a new mold for a foil

are happy with it ? Some little fuzzies stuck to the mold, but otherwise it came out perfect. It just took most of the day. I'm wondering when I'm going to have the time to carve the other side of the mold. And then the stabilizers. And the mast. Rad! But still use a release agent, you aren't going...

Re: Teaching wife hydrofoil.

my wife told me, if it wasn't for my patience and attention when I was teaching her, she would not become a kiteboarder. its very much individual I think... Actually, not being married myself, I really wouldn't know. I was just repeating something a married friend of mine told me. One thing I have ...

Re: Teaching wife hydrofoil.

Teaching your wife to do anything, the first step is:

Did you get her to sign a pre-nuptual agreement before you married? Check with your lawyer and make sure you are protected so when the divorce happens she doesn't get everything.

Cutting a new mold for a foil

phpBB [video]

I'm using HDPE instead of expanded PVC this time. No more glazing putty and painting the mold. I just have to sand it, and I may not even need a release agent.

Re: Hydrofoil skill progression steps

I would put " foiling tacks " in advanced as they are way more difficult then any of the other things you mentioned. Proper Foiling race jibes are also not easy (meaning downwind jibes at speed), specially when done both ways. I am nowhere near there in my progression with a foil, but from my exper...
