Re: Kiting Choppy Water

I've ridden Makos for years when the chop comes up and my 67 year old knee cartilage, what's left of it, thanks me. As others have said, the Makos are slower and don't go to windward well, but they do carve nicely.

Re: 2018 LF Thruster Foil

There is a lot going on with that wing. The foil shape appears to be reflexed with a concave upper surface near the trailing edge. The tips appear to have quite a bit of washout, or downward twist. Perhaps the reflex is intended to reduce pitching moment for a more stable foil and the washout is int...

Re: Foot hooks question

A friend broke an NSI foot hook a few days ago. I broke a slingshot foot hook the next day. Neither of us had done a strapless waterstart before, but we did manage to waterstart and kite back to the beach. Both NSI and slingshot foot hooks are made of cheap plastic and I now consider them unreliable...

Re: What the deal with Core ?

I did the o-ring swap and it solved my air leakage problem. Easy fix, but there was no mention of the spare o-ring in the user's guide.

Re: What the deal with Core ?

Reading this thread I'm noticing that all the Core owners are very happy. The only criticisms come from people who never owned a Core. And never rode one in most of the cases... I'm an intermediate kiter. I started with another brand but have moved to Core. I own 9m, 11m, and 19m XR's. Great kites ...

Re: Efficient 15m for light wind? Edge?

I'm 165 lb and use a 2013 Edge 15m in 10 to 12. It is a very efficient kite if you keep the apparent windspeed up. In wind below 10 I'm on a Core 19.

Here is vid shot by Jeff from his paramotor of the 15m in 10kt using a light wind board.

Re: Next Gen Mako - Timeless Design

I've got a 135 that I use in ugly breaking bay chop from the high teens on up. Great board. In the mid teens I'm on a 150. In the low teens I'm on a King.

Re: Roll Call - Older Kooks & Seasoned Age Kiteboarders

The good thing about kiteboarding is that you can push hard or you can throttle back and take it easy. When my body feels good, I go for it. If something is hurting, I throttle back and take it easy. Seems to work for me. I'm in my 60's and have been kiting for a little over two years. I expect to b...

Re: Board size and chop

I sail in gnarly breaking bay chop with onshore wind most of the time. I use a Mako 150 below 18kt and a Mako 135 above 18kt, body weight 75kg. Both work great in their respective conditions and are very comfortable to ride. They don't go upwind quite as well as a squared up twin tip, but they do OK...

Re: Dallas Texas Reporting In

TheJoe wrote:You can get some practice at the cable park for some board skills. It can help a lot when there is not enough wind to kite.
I second the cable park recommendation. Get comfortable on the board at the park and then focus on the kite when you've got wind.
