Re: Kalpitiya / Sri Lanka report 2012

@ Ruuk : Amazing news :) Looking forward to some fellow kiters on our beach! Btw, I'm in Kandathoduwa at the moment. Last week, we had some quite epic surf conditions with nice, strong wind :D @ Ruuk : in a week, a friend of mine will join us. He's an intermediate, so I want to take him to a lagoon....

Re: Fire Wire vanguard, Vader adding foil?

Personally, I would do the conversion only if you want to "recycle" the Vader, and you don't want to use it either with or without foil.
Otherwise you end up with a bad compromise for both.

Re: Where is good spot to learn wave kitesurfing?

Boavista during Swell time (winter months).
Check out the RIU - in front, there is a long, nice beach break, and the station is good (incl. rescue)
Super easy conditions - side off wind, clean waves in sets.

Re: true advice on Sri Lanka, a new Brazil?

Hey Ruuk, Can you point out where the best places on Puttalam lagoon are in summer time? Is there any decent place to launch on Puttalam or Palavi side? I'm asking because a friend joins us this summer (intermediate kitesurfer) , and I'm not sure he can handle the waves in front of our house. So I w...

Re: Is Wakestyle dead?

Wakestyle covers just a very narrow bit of what Kitesurfing really can be, and you need specific conditions for it. I would not say it's the most difficult style in Kitebsurfing, but certainly the most demanding on your body. Look at me, I'm over 40 now, would consider myself really fit, but my body...

Re: Surfboard Size Poll

Me: 75 kg / 165 lbs, on a 5.2 Tomo Vanguard. 100% strapless.

Other than Peter, I love the Planing Hulls :-)
(But we both like the same kind of kites ;) )

Re: Poll! who is going to win King of the Air 2018?

It will depend a lot on what the judges are looking for...
If wakestyle gets the nod ==> Hadlow
If hooked in elevation and smoothness ==> Langeree

Re: On Shore Wave Kites

My take on things (confirming what some of you already said): * To have fun, at least a couple of degrees side here and there are a must, fully completely on does not cut it for me. Kite: * Fast * very quick-turning, with defined feedback * Must fly upwind very well * Must drift nicely and with stab...

Re: How To Self-Land a Kite in High Winds

@plummet: I'm with you on this - in conditions as you describe (ridiculously overpowered). Did the same in Tarifa one day - no other option. But in regular conditions, I stay with what I mentioned before: fly to edge, steer down hard, pull upper front line, and when landed quickly walk flag line to ...

Re: How To Self-Land a Kite in High Winds

Tether is definitely the safest as long as you have a good anchor. Helix screw work better than dog anchor corkscrews in our sand at the Oregon Coast. Usually we have enough driftwood to tie to and Harbor Freight has 2” towstrap with forged shackles 12’ Long for under $10 It depends how close the t...
